I guess Navi Mumbai has been neglected somewhat!, so here is a thread for it!

to start out :- report on the new Navi Mumbai international airport

Airport

Enhancement in aviation facilities in Mumbai is absolutely essential for keeping the leadership of Maharashtra in attracting Foreign Direct Investment thereby creating a place of pride for itself and add to the prosperity of its people. Therefore a second airport in the Mumbai Region has become imperative, as the existing airport at Mumbai, is fast reaching saturation level. To meet the growing demand of air travel CIDCO is soon going to develop a new airport.

The location of the proposed airport at Navi Mumbai has been considered on several parameters. Prominent among these is the fact that Navi Mumbai is expected to absorb the future growth in population, business and commercial activity of the region. The availability of physical and commercial activity of the region. The availability of physical and social infrastructure coupled with environmental friendly size with least resettlement and rehabilitation makes the Navi Mumbai airport project technically and financially viable.

The airport would be one of world's few '' greenfield '' international state-of-art airport offering worldclass facilities to passengers cargo, aircrafts and airlines.

The site of airport is located in an ara of 950 hectares accommodating two parallel runways for simultaneous and segregated parallel operation with provision of full length taxi ways on either side of the runways. The airfield has been designed to accommodate the new large aircrafts compatible to aerodrome code 4-E.

Navi Mumbai International Airport will support the rapidly growing air travel needs of Mumbai Metropolitan Region. It is expected to absorb annually 4.5 million passengers in its first operational year 2007, doubling to 8.2 million by 2010 to 13.7 million by 2020 and 30 million by 2030.

The Navi Mumbai Airport is proposed to be developed through public-private participation. For rapid, successful implementation of this major, vitally needed project, a Special Economic Zone, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Thane-Belapur and Taloja industrial area and the huge catchment area ranging from Pune to South Mumbai-would assure a steady growth rate in traffic at the new airport, thus assuring steady revenues to the investors. In addition the project opens-up state vast interland rich in agriculture, floriculture, high-tech high value industries to world market making airport to act as focal point for emergency of a trans-shipment centre in asian region.

The mission of SPC would also be entitled to special benefits/incentives currently available on infrastructure development projects. The SPC mission would be to build and operate airport that will become exemplary worldwide based on top quality services, high safety standards and above all commitment to customer satisfaction.

At present CIDCO's proposal for second International Airport , Navi Mumbai is awaiting clearance from Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India.

smart-city-project-dumped-nmmc-drafts-stp-project-under-amrut

http://m.timesofindia.com/city/navi-mumbai/smart-city-project-dumped-nmmc-drafts-stp-project-under-amrut/articleshow/51430452.cms

NAVI MUMBAI: With the smart city project not happening and a blow to the STP project, NMMC has worked out an alternative Rs 300 crore project that can provide partial government funding under Central government AMRUT scheme.
The civic body is weighing options to do it on a PPP mode or by itself. Described in the initial stage of planning, the NMMC is in the process of getting a DPR done.

The futuristic STP project with an enhanced level of purification from the current secondary to tertiary level will help better commercial exploitation of the grey water, cut daily need for drinking water and arrest the waste of 180-200 MLD of STP that is largely drained out into the creek with some 12 MLD used in gardens.

The civic body said the project is in the ``initial stage'' and is in the process of getting a detailed project report (DPR) done. The project can get one third funding, the civic body said. "We have not ruled out funding the rest with concessional loans and doing it ourselves or doing in a PPP mode,'' the civic body noted.
The business mode involves recovering the cost by selling the STP water. STP water will be sold to housing societies for using it for gardens, washing of vehicles and use in toilets that will also cost less than the monthly bill. Currently NRI phase II housing society makes some use of grey water.
NMMC said grey water can also be supplied to some industrial houses in the MIDC area .
The DPR will decide on whether to have one centralised treatment plant for the tertiary level purification or separate ones at the six STP plants in the civic jurisdiction.

cidcos-mega-stp-project-will-save-potable-supply

http://m.timesofindia.com/city/navi-mumbai/cidcos-mega-stp-project-will-save-potable-supply/articleshow/51846359.cms
NAVI MUMBAI: The town planning body is in the process of setting up a mega project to ensure supply of treated water for non-potable uses, said sources. The project will be split into two phases —phase I is to be commissioned by 2018 and the second phase, covering new areas in Cidco jurisdiction, will be ready by 2023.
Cidco has allocated Rs 620 crores to supply around 239 million litre per day (MLD) of recycled water from the STPs with 318 MLD total capacity.

The town planning body has approved Rs 400 crore for installation of 318 MLD capacity STP units and Rs 220 crore is being reserved for laying requisite infrastructure to supply the recycled water.
"This project is part of our smart city initiative, encompassing all new and old Cidco nodes. We are not only working on creating STP but also using treated water for non-potable purpose," said Ramesh Giri, superintending engineer, Cidco water supply.
He added that the required infrastructure for installation of tanker filling stations at STP units and laying pipeline in the nodes will be developed simultaneously.
A Cidco official said that in the first phase, five STP units, which are under construction, will be able to treat 181 MLD sewage water, out of which 136 MLD (75%) can be used after recycling. The five plants are being set up at Karanjade (20 MLD), Ulwe (32 MLD), Taloja (32 MLD), Kharghar (70 MLD), and Pushpak Nagar (27 MLD).
The second phase will have four units which will be able to treat 137 MLD of sewage water, out of which 103 MLD could be put into use through recycling process. The four STPs will come up at Kamothe (70 MLD) STP, Ulwe (32 MLD), Karanjade (8 MLD) and Pushpak Nagar (27 MLD).
According to water supply officials, Cidco is already supplying 6 MLD treated water to golf course (4MLD) and Central Park (2 MLD) from its 25 MLD-capacity Kharghar unit, whereas 50 more MLD will be channelized through recycling system by 2017-end at a cost of Rs 50 crore.

Ikea-confirms-plan-for-store-in-navi-mumbai

http://m.timesofindia.com/city/mumb...store-in-navi-mumbai/articleshow/52368893.cms

Executives with the Swedish flat-pack furniture giant stated that they plan to build a store in Navi Mumbai. Spread across 4 lakh sq ft, the store will be located on 23 acres along the Thane-Belapur road. The company had bought the lease rights from agro-chemicals major Rallis in March.

The store will offer bedroom sets and kitchenware, and a host of other products. IKEA officials say the new outlet will bring 500-700 full-time jobs. In fact, it intends to have 50% women staffers at its store.

Maharashtra is one of the most important markets for IKEA, said the company's India head Juvencio Maeztu in a statement. IKEA, which was the first single-brand retailer to get foreign direct investment (FDI) approval, expects to have more than five million visitors at its Navi Mumbai store when it opens doors to customers in the near future (the company did not reveal a date for the store's launch).
Besides the store, the place will also feature a restaurant, bistro and other amenities.
IKEA had been looking for a place to set up shop in western India for some months after it bought a 13-acre plot in Hyderabad. The company plans to open a total of 25 stores in India by 2025.

India, China to develop township in Navi Mumbai

Mumbai: Chinese construction giant, China Fortune Land Development Co Ltd (CFLD), has expressed interest to work with Cidco in creating an integrated township in Navi Mumbai. And the focused area is centered in Navi Mumbai International Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA).

An MoU was signed between Cidco vice-chairman and managing director Bhushan Gagrani and CFLD president (west coast region) Wayne Liu in the presence of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday in Mumbai.

NAINA is proposed to come up on 600 hectares of land encompassing 270 villages in Raigad, in the proximity of the upcoming Navi Mumbai Greenfield airport. "NAINA is devised to be one of its kind model city in India to fall in the world-wide phenomena of urbanization," said Fadnavis.

Gagrani said that CFLD has offered to develop an integrated township through private-public participation in NAINA. "This is the initial stage of MoU. Soon a high-level joint committee comprising officials of the state government and local authorities will be constituted to chalk out the modalities and plan for the strategic partnership."

Through PPP model, CFLD will provide a package of solutions for development of integrated township. It would plan, invest, build and operate public facilities such as city infrastructure, sewage disposal, heat power supply and schools and hospitals.

CFLD has agreed to explore the prospect of developing modern, ecological and favourable living and business environments which will result in harmonious growth between city, industry and people.

CFLD president Jerry Zhao said his company was looking at investments in Maharashtra as it has a conducive atmosphere for growth.

Commerce hub twice BKC's size planned for Navi Mumbai

If all goes according to plan, a proposed commercial hub on 120 hectares in Kharghar will become the metropolitan area's biggest such facility and a revenue grosser for Cidco by way of land sale. The net land use will be about double that of BKC (63 hectares mixed land use). The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) is the planning authority for Navi Mumbai, in which Kharghar lies.
The proposed facility , touted as BKC-II, will be helmed by a golf course and vast greens of Central Park and will be nestled close to Pandavkada Hills, a part of the Parsik range. It also promises a resort-like experience.

Cidco on Friday will float a global tender to invite architects with 15 years' minimum experience to draw up the master plan of the proposed Corporate Park, Kharghar.

BKC-II will be in close proximity to the upcoming second international airport. It has the approval of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who holds the urban development portfolio.

Dinkar Samant, former chief architect and planner of Cidco, who had presented the approach paper of the project, told TOI, “The board approved it in a week's time after the presentation. It's going to be on a par with signature commercial parks abroad.“

Different Century !

^^
CIDCO's New Bombay was conceived in an era of Cold War poverty politics.

English speaking Indian and Global media was all talk re: Balkanisation of India.
Yugoslavia, Egypt were India's best friends under the USSR umbrella. Everything India or Indians did or planned was doomed forever. Pricing was so bottom-of the pit, buyers would not invest; I think at 1 point even my father had an option he refused.

Ppl. were writing off New Bombay. In contrast, Navi Mumbai is a roaring success.
Never again. Navi Mumbai is rapidly evolving from ho-hum to avant-garde !

There should be strict measures to ensure that Navi Mumbai does not expand/suburbanize too much.

Mumbai is "lucky" (And unlucky) that is has a limited amount of land.

With suburbanization public transportation won't be as effective and people will have to use cars/personal vehicles for commuting leading to traffic jams, pollution and a lower quality of life in general.

I feel like you can have a clean/green/modern city but one that is also vertically built and with limits on how far is expands if there are intelligent people creating and enforcing policy.

Cidco sets ball rolling for 2nd phase of work on Kharghar’s Central Park

Navi Mumbai: Central Park, Kharghar, designed on the lines of London's Hyde Park, is under phase-II of development.

Last week, Cidco tendered the project to select a strategic partner to develop it as an ideal theme park.

The project, to be implemented on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis, will be handled by the operator to develop the park and ensure its financial viability. The park spreads across an area of 80 hectares or 200 acres.

Though phase-II involves work on 55 hectares, the entire park could be handed over for integrating the various features incorporated in phase-I after which the park was opened in 2010.

Mohan Ninawe, senior PRO (Cidco), told TOI on Friday, "The park can have replicas of forts in Maharashtra, heritage buildings, fun rides and food courts among others. It will be developed on the lines of amusement parks like Essel World or Imagica"

The green space will be a perfect hangout for families and individuals with diverse interests in sports, debates, walks and various indulgences close to nature as in the famous and historic Hyde Park.

Besides, its location — opposite the green acres of golf course and the proposed BKC-II (corporate park, Kharghar) for which Cidco has floated the global tender last week to select an architect — will make the park a much sought-after venue.

Hyde Park has many features of being a getaway for families and is also a famous meeting centre. It is a signature address in London.

Navi Mumbai airport’s new address on take-off path

NAVI MUMBAI: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) stretch has a new address — Pushpak. Literally translated as a 'mythical aircraft', the sprawling new node in Navi Mumbai was created by Cidco in 2015. It will be the address of the Rs 16,000-crore greenfield Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Cidco senior PRO Mohan Ninawe said, "Now, vastly it is barren land, with the existing population being around 5,000. This is expected to touch 2 lakh within 5 years." Huge airplanes, including A380, which would take off from and land here once the airport becomes functional, will, in a way, link the populace to various international cities. The first flight is scheduled to take off from here at the end of 2019.

The location will have connectivity with Santa Cruz, Fort area, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Thane, Kalyan and Dombivali. At present, the sounds of drilling machines muffle all other sounds, as the vast countryside gets ready for the mega-project to take off. Many new structures can be seen coming up in the distance.

As Volvo buses vroom along NH-4B to Goa, exiting the city, the vast countryside presents a picture of frenetic activity. It has become a hub of construction to rehabilitate 3,500 families who will migrate from 10 ancestral villages in the core airport area. Apart from this, razing the massive Ulwe hill for building parallel runways also remains a huge challenge in the coming days. Considered to be a technical marvel, the giant exercise of airport development also involves diversion of the Ulwe river.

Sources from Cidco said, "Pushpak Nagar, where land leveling work is going on, will be the hub of branded hotels. The airport project proved to be a bonanza for landholders who surrendered the fields. They have struck gold under the 22.5% PAP scheme, with prime plots eyed by builders where crores of projects, residential and commercial, will be coming up."

The biggest area in the node will be occupied by the airport, with the core area being 1,160 hectares and total land area being 2,268 hectares in the phased development of the airport. Airport is at the centre of the node.

The node will get a new clover bridge, which is under construction. It will provide link to JNPT, national highways and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, the proposed 21.8km link connecting Mumbai with Navi Mumbai.

Pushpak is the biggest node among the other two Cidco-administered nodes of Ulwe and Dronagiri.

National and state highways — NH 4B and SH 54 — flank the node, apart from the Amre Marg that links it to Kille junction on the Palm Beach Road.

Seems Pushpak is going to witness extreme development as the airport nears completion.

To attract visitors, the Navi Mumbai civic body has constructed a huge replica of a tortoise in an amusement park at Kopri village in Vashi, on the lines of the Old Woman’s Shoehouse in Malabar Hill. Officials from the civic body said apart from the replica of the tortoise, the amusement park offers visitors seating arrangement for senior citizens, besides parking and other facilities. The work on the park began in 2014 and was completed recently. The park is spread across 5,000 sq mt area and the civic body has spent around Rs 4.5 crore on it. The amusement park is yet to be formally inaugurated.
“We proposed the tortoise replica on the lines of the Old Woman’s Shoehouse in Mumbai. Though not exactly similar, we have constructed it to make it another tourist attraction in the satellite town,” said a civic official.
The official further said the replica of the tortoise is constructed with ferro-cement for quality and stability. “There is an internal stairway inside the tortoise for people to move. They can reach up to its mouth and can have a view of the park. It will be a great experience for people visiting it,” said a civic official. The length of the tortoise replica is 23 metres and its height is 6.40 metres.
The official said the park aims at providing recreational facilities mostly to children. The civic body has already developed an amusement park- Wonders Park- in Nerul. But the basic structure and features of the amusement park at Vashi are different from that at Nerul, said the official.
Another official said the civic body plans to levy a nominal entry fee for visitors. “As of now, the entry is free as it is not yet formally inaugurated. The inauguration will happen soon. Then, a call on levying a nominal entry fee will be taken,” said the official.
