I guess Navi Mumbai has been neglected somewhat!, so here is a thread for it!

to start out :- report on the new Navi Mumbai international airport

Airport

Enhancement in aviation facilities in Mumbai is absolutely essential for keeping the leadership of Maharashtra in attracting Foreign Direct Investment thereby creating a place of pride for itself and add to the prosperity of its people. Therefore a second airport in the Mumbai Region has become imperative, as the existing airport at Mumbai, is fast reaching saturation level. To meet the growing demand of air travel CIDCO is soon going to develop a new airport.

The location of the proposed airport at Navi Mumbai has been considered on several parameters. Prominent among these is the fact that Navi Mumbai is expected to absorb the future growth in population, business and commercial activity of the region. The availability of physical and commercial activity of the region. The availability of physical and social infrastructure coupled with environmental friendly size with least resettlement and rehabilitation makes the Navi Mumbai airport project technically and financially viable.

The airport would be one of world's few '' greenfield '' international state-of-art airport offering worldclass facilities to passengers cargo, aircrafts and airlines.

The site of airport is located in an ara of 950 hectares accommodating two parallel runways for simultaneous and segregated parallel operation with provision of full length taxi ways on either side of the runways. The airfield has been designed to accommodate the new large aircrafts compatible to aerodrome code 4-E.

Navi Mumbai International Airport will support the rapidly growing air travel needs of Mumbai Metropolitan Region. It is expected to absorb annually 4.5 million passengers in its first operational year 2007, doubling to 8.2 million by 2010 to 13.7 million by 2020 and 30 million by 2030.

The Navi Mumbai Airport is proposed to be developed through public-private participation. For rapid, successful implementation of this major, vitally needed project, a Special Economic Zone, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Thane-Belapur and Taloja industrial area and the huge catchment area ranging from Pune to South Mumbai-would assure a steady growth rate in traffic at the new airport, thus assuring steady revenues to the investors. In addition the project opens-up state vast interland rich in agriculture, floriculture, high-tech high value industries to world market making airport to act as focal point for emergency of a trans-shipment centre in asian region.

The mission of SPC would also be entitled to special benefits/incentives currently available on infrastructure development projects. The SPC mission would be to build and operate airport that will become exemplary worldwide based on top quality services, high safety standards and above all commitment to customer satisfaction.

At present CIDCO's proposal for second International Airport , Navi Mumbai is awaiting clearance from Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India.

Navi Mumbai sees Rs 2k-cr land deal

Essel Group-Bhushan Steel Consortium Outbids Indiabulls, GVK; To Develop Knowledge City

Supriya Verma Mishra & Abhiram Ghadyalpatil MUMBAI

A CONSORTIUM comprising the Essel Group — promoters of the Zee Group of companies — and Delhibased Bhushan Steel and Power on Thursday won a closely-fought bid to develop an amusement, theme and knowledge city over 250 acres at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai.

The consortium has agreed to pay Rs 1,590 crore upfront for the land near Khargar, one of Mumbai’s distant suburbs and close to the city of Navi Mumbai. The bidder also has to deposit another Rs 538 crore with Cidco within a month, valuing the total transaction at around Rs 2,100 crore, which makes it one of the largest real estate transactions in India in absolute terms.

The payment is for a 74% stake in a special purpose vehicle or SPV which will implement the project. The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco), the state government’s industrial township development arm, opened the financial bids for the project on Thursday. Bids for the project were called by Cidco early last year, Cidco’s general manager (special projects and IT) DLN Murty told ET.

Cidco, which has developed Navi Mumbai, will hold 26% in the SPV in the form of land and other administrative clearances. The winning consortium outbid Indiabulls at Rs 1,050 crore and Hyderabadbased GVK Group at Rs 808 crore. The transaction was confirmed by officials from a property consultant familiar with the matter. An official of one of the losing bidders also confirmed the details.

The theme park is intended to be a first-of-its-kind amusement, fun, and knowledge city in India, which is expected to trigger huge investments in the film and entertainment sectors. The first phase of the theme park will have to be ready by 2013 and the entire theme park will be ready by 2016, Cidco officials said.

The plot will be used to develop an entertainmenttheme park called Bollywood Hill City, on the lines of a similar project in Hollywood.

The project will have an eco-park, a large amusement park, five-star hotel, studios and multiplex. The first phase of the project, comprising 100 acres, is to be completed by 2013.

I've just returned from Mumbai (Navi Mumbai to be specific) and one thing that strikes me is that - with all the hype and hyperventilating going on about N.M becoming a prime location (somewhere in the future??), the ground reality is that this city is very likely to become the world's rubble, dust and grime capital !

Visited In-Orbit - classy mall with all the brands you can think of are housed there. Yet, get out of it, come on to the streets and the side pavements, street(s) are full of rubble. So is the case with Center One !

Vashi MAIN city is the same story. Rubble, unkempt pedestrian areas, unergonomic pavement heights..

Panvel, Belapur, Khargar, Airoli railway stations - a crying shame. Guess they are happy building "modern" structures but any thought of cleaning the roofs is totally fornicated

Palm Beach Road - great smooth road !! Once you turn left into the many upcoming building localities and you find rubble again.

I can be accused of rantings galore but Navi Mumbai is better off being called OLD MUMBAI if the Public Works Departments / Municiple organisations do not clean up the rubble. One may look at all the gleaming and shining glass clad skyscrapers but you need to look whats beneath your feet.... and regret to say .. it is f*cking depressing to see dust, dirt, garbage, badly mantained pedestrian walkways everywhere.

It'd be nice if Mumbai aspires to become another Colombo (which is definitely cleaner and with lot of civic sense !! Forget Shanghai... Please!

Dude.. no one is comparing it with Shanghai. It will take another 25 years for us to reach where they were 10 years back, given our attitude, civic sense, lack of discipline and of course *** politicians who are pushing us backwards. China is WAY ahead of us in every sphere.. just visit their threads in this forum and you will see the difference.

... the question is what we can do to help things out. I know there is a group of SW Engineers in Whitefield Bangalore, who have taken traffic management in front of their premises in their hands, working as volunteers next to police. Can we do something like that in N.M? Some local initiatives from the educated class to clean the rubble? What about NGOs? Even Gurgaon has very similar problem..

Once in the past - because of the Tigers' threat to it (bombings et al). Not because of the shameful civic sense that one comes across in Mumbai . Trust me, I found Colombo to be a much cleaner city.

It is beyond my capacity and time to take up Navi Mumbai cleanliness project as a 100% devotion to duty but I am actively involved with upkeep of Seawoods Estate and surrounding areas. I've talked to residents of seawoods area. Talked to CIDCO officials as well, and gave them many solutions on waste management and waste segregation. There is a daily communication between society directors / chiefs on the issue of cleanliness and several inputs from well educated individuals as well.

The problem - the sheerness of it - is that every other person gives lip service and pushes the envelop to some other department or individual. There is no united effort to bring a picture perfect Navi Mumbai for its citizens. Even well off residents of Seawoods Estate (Palm Beach Road); who have several cars per family, are averse to keeping their own yards clean. You can find unmentionable potpouri of items thrown out of their own windows !!! AND !!! You are talking of highly educated and high incomed people here.

The problem seems not only in Navi Mumbai but entire India is becoming a rubble-dust-garbage capital of the world. Civic authorities (Municipalities) can do only so much with limited resources and manpower. What is the use of sweeping a road when you know the roadside is full of mud / dust? No matter how much you sweep, the dirt is going to come back!!!!

Sometimes I begin to wonder, is it in our genes that we want to live with D.D.G around with unkempt civic amenities ? Or do we need a GORA to write about India's failing civic sense and we are forced to wake up from our deep slumber of servants and sweepers taking care of whatever lies where our feet step into?

Ashok Chavan's Mega City will re-energise state

Shubhangi Khapre / DNASaturday, March 6, 2010 0:34 IST

Mumbai: Finally, chief minister Ashok Chavan has something to showcase. The state government has given approval to start work on the world’s second largest ‘energy city’ project with an investment of Rs50,000 crore in Panvel, 65km from Mumbai.

On Sunday, Chavan will lay the foundation stone for the Mega City project, which will include a state-of-the-art energy city, an entertainment city, and an information technology and telecom city, spread over an area of 2,100 acres.

According to a senior secretary in the chief minister’s office, the only parallel to such a massive project including the three components of energy, telecom, and entertainment is in Qatar.

The official said the Panvel project would provide direct employment to 2.5 lakh peopleand indirect employment to 5 lakh.
The chief minister, who is personally monitoring the project, held a meeting last week with senior officials to streamline coordination among the various civic and infrastructure agencies that will play roles in the project.

The Mega City project is being financed by Gulf Finance House and executed by Valuable Properties Private Limited. An insider in the chief minister’s office said, “Chavan initiated the project discussions in 2006 when he was industry minister in Vilasrao Deshmukh’s cabinet.”

Unlike the special economic zones (SEZs), which have hit roadblocks in many places with farmers refusing to give up their land, the Mega City scheme does not face any such hurdles.

Officials in the industry and revenue ministries said, “The total requirement of land is 2,100 acres. We have already taken possession of 1,465 acres.”

Even for the remaining land, the government does not expect any opposition from local residents. The villages which have had to part with land for the project include Wandoli, Loniwali, Bherle, Chikele, Wangni-Vaze, Mohoshivkar, and Pali-Khurd.

The project, which is being funded entirely by private investors, will not need any subsidy from the state government. But the chief minister, who is also chairman of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, has committed his government to assist the project by providing infrastructure

great news.

I think the GOM cant do anything about this.

they need to start a fast line on the harbour line from panvel and get Panvel to CST in 50 min(which is possible through existing rakes) at a frequency of 3-4 min.

and boost the thane-nerul-panvel route with more trains

so its Indian railways who will provide the infra needed. GOM cant do much

having said that, i hope the maha mumbai sez also happens. thats more important and driven by local Indian industry

From their website -

The GFH Mumbai Economic Development Zone is set to be one of the largest development projects in the state – a state-of-the-art Economic Development Zone - just outside Mumbai, the country’s financial and commercial capital.
The 1600-acre zone, which will attract a total investment in excess of US$10 billion, comes exactly a year after GFH had signed a similar agreement with the state for the development of India’s first energy business district – Energy City India. The bank had floated an immensely successful private placement initiative earlier this year that raised US$630 million towards the first phase of its development. The economic development zone announced today will include Energy City India, apart from incorporating three additional components – Telecom City Mumbai , Software City Mumbai and Entertainment City Mumbai.

Thought this project had disappeared. Well it's about time some mega projects come up in Maharashtra, Gujarat is really starting to take over.

Work on Rs 100-cr heritage centre to begin on Tuesday

Bella Jaisinghani I TNN

Mumbai: One of Indias most ambitious cultural projects that calls for an investment of Rs 100 crore takes off in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.Chief minister Ashok Chavan and union HRD minister Kapil Sibal will lay the foundation stone of the Living Heritage Centre that is being built on a five-acre plot in Kharghar.
The project is a joint partnership between Cidco and the Surabhi Foundation,a cultural organisation founded by documentary film-maker Siddharth Kak.It is part of the larger Central Park being developed by Cidco and is expected to be thrown open to the public in 2012.
The government agency has allotted land, for which Surabhi Foundation will have to pay a certain fee every year. The onerous task of raising almost Rs 100 crore by way of investment is left to the cultural organisation, which has appointed professionals for this purpose.
This is a dream come true. The Living Heritage Centre will be the first theme park based on India, says Kak of Surabhi fame.
The centre will have something for every kind of visitor, says Kak.For example, visitors can explore the durbar of Maratha king Shivaji and seek darshan or approach emperor Akbar who will even take questions that he is programmed to answer. At the entrance, you will see a wax museum of the leaders who shaped India. But dont be surprised if one of them puts his arm around you for we will embed live actors amidst the figurines, laughs Kak.
A composite training programme is proposed for professionals who wish to learn how to manage such a living museum, conceptualise and market it.

An Akshar construction. Aparently the idiots are asking for 14k per sqft. Can't imagine why anyone would pay that amount for this building. The cheap-ass glass finish visible in the 2nd image is what the building will finally look like.

Another ugly building to add to the "awesome" buildings along palm beach.

These building belong to the Progressive Group complex. Was spoken about in the last few pages I think. The second image shows the sample flat exteriors. Seems to be a good quite decent.

And finally, the beginning of the rape of palm beach road. The road was by far the best road in Mumbai. Not a bump. Not a shudder. And now these bast*rds have come along with their WOOD powered (!!!! its bloody 2010) bitumen to f**k things up.

Taken from my phone. Saved me alot of trouble. Had to drive slow and stop to take the pics of the buildings, and it so happened that the NM cops decided to do a speed check along Palm Beach Road at just about the same time. Was going about a 100 below my usual speed. :)

GFHs $10-billion world-class economic zone will spur Gulf NRIs to invest more in Navi Mumbai, says Dubai-based Sternon

Gulf Finance Houses US$ 10 billion Economic Development Zone (EDZ), Indias largest FDI-driven project, whose grounding breaking ceremony was graced by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on March 7, 2010, has boosted Navi Mumbais position as one of the most attractive investment options in India, according to Hussaini F. Nalwalla, Managing Director of the Dubai-based Sternon Real Estate.

It is undoubtedly the most iconic world-class project to be undertaken in India, said Nalwalla, whose company is marketing and promoting the exclusive NRI township Magic Hills in Navi Mumbai, being developed by Garnet Construction Ltd, Mumbai. The sheer scale and magnitude of the project have certainly put Navi Mumbai in the league of Indias preferred business and leisure destinations.

Spread over an area of over 1,750 acres, close to the proposed Navi Mumbai international airport, the GFH EDZ will comprise three distinct components: Energy City, IT & Telecom City and Entertainment City. When completed, it will house 140,000 residents, generating direct employment for 250,000 people and indirect employment for as many as 750,000.

When Sternon first tied up with Garnet Construction to promote Magic Hills, we did not even dream that a project like the GFH EDZ was possible in Navi Mumbai. But the fact that work on the mega project has already begun and the direct support of the Chief Minister himself go to show the Maharashtra governments commitment to its implementation, added Nalwalla.

As Magic Hills was among the first integrated townships to be launched in Navi Mumbai, our early investors have been fortunate to book our bungalows, villas and row-houses at very attractive rates, said Nalwalla. Now, with work commencing on the EDZ site and Navi Mumbai International Airport, there has been all-round appreciation in property rates. And this is just the beginning.

Construction of the Magic Hills project is progressing rapidly, said Nalwalla. Currently, plinth and slab work is being carried out on 230 villas, alongside infrastructure work on the site. For Phase 2, work on modern twin bungalows and row-houses is scheduled to commence shortly.

Arun Kedia, Managing Director of Garnet Construction, commented: Navi Mumbai is shaping into a global business hub, as Mumbai city has been saturated and there is no land available for mega projects. When we conceived Magic Hills we had anticipated that this satellite city would be a land of great opportunities. The emergence of projects like the GFH EDZ and several others has proved that our hunch was right. Now, Magic Hills is right in the middle of some of the most amazing projects in India.
