I wonder if this gets expanded to the beach where could a stop be placed that gets good usage?

Miami designates Brickell Key for water taxi service
http://www.miamitodaynews.com/2017/0...-taxi-service/

In a growing metropolis like the City of Miami – embraced as it is by vast waterways – expanding transit options to the water makes sense.

Miami city commissioners have just designated a site on Brickell Key for water taxi service, while the Miami River Commission continues to lobby Miami-Dade County to identify potential water taxi stops on the river.

On July 27, city commissioners accepted a right-of-way deed of dedication for upland property on the key, a man-made triangular island at the foot of Southeast Eighth Street.

It’s part of a development agreement the city has with property owner-developer Swire Properties.

The legislation directs City Manager Daniel Alfonso to accept, pursuant to a right-of-way deed, the dedication of upland from Swire Properties US Inc., Swire Properties Inc. and Swire Jade Co. LLC.

The land is to be “utilized as a public linear park and as a public water taxi pick up and drop off location” and associated purposes, the resolution says.

As part of the deal, the Swire companies must maintain the property subject to the deed.

A map presented with the deed marks the park and water taxi site just north of where Brickell Key Drive bridge (Southeast Eighth Street) connects with the island.

Also called Claughton Island, the 44-acre island is connected to the mainland by a bridge. The island is home to high-rises offering office space, hotel rooms and, primarily, luxury condos.

Bridge From MiamiCentral To Government Center Now Under Construction

https://www.thenextmiami.com/bridge-...-construction/

MiamiCentral is getting a connection to Government Center.

All Aboard Florida filed a Notice of Commencement last week that construction was beginning on a pedestrian bridge linking the two transit hubs.

Government Center is a four-level Metromover and Metrorail hub with millions of annual passengers. It also includes a platform for a future east-west Metrorail connection.

MiamiCentral will include Brightline and Tri-rail service, along with retail, restaurant, office and residential space.

I don't believe there's been a render of it unfortunately.

Either spend the money to do it right or don't do it at all. These half measures are a joke and setting up for failure down the line.

As County Prepares to Gut Public Buses and Trains, Angry Commuters Plan Protests
http://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/tr...trains-9594060

Though 7.7 million people ride public buses, Metrorail, and Metromover every month, Miami-Dade makes no apologies for its hellish transit system. In a move that seems to favor ridesharing and commuting by car, the county has promised to make massive budget cuts in public transit over the next fiscal year.

To save $24 million, the county's current transit proposal would cut 8 percent of Metrobus’ $248 million and 6 percent of Metrorail’s $75 million budget. Bus routes would be eliminated, operating hours would be reduced, and wait times for trains would increase.

As county commissioners get ready to review the proposal in the first of two hearings September 7, some outraged residents are organizing to fight the cutbacks.

“Even if you don’t use transit, there are good reasons for you to support the public transportation system,” says Marta Viciedo, founder of Transit Alliance Miami, a group rallying opponents of the cuts. “It reduces congestion and improves mobility for the community, not just the individual. It’s an investment in the collective quality of life.”

Viciedo thinks few Miamians, including regular public transit users, know about the looming cuts. She fears that once the plan goes into effect October 1, many commuters — especially lower-income workers — will be “blindsided” when it becomes more difficult to get to their their jobs every day.

In fact, many people she's spoken with think the county is expanding the rail system, not shrinking it. The confusion, she says, stems from announcements related to Mayor Carlos Gimenez’s Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Plan, which is separate from the county’s budget proposal.

Hey there, friends, from Stockholm! I'm actually posting this riding at over 200 mph on the airport express train here and like so many other trips I'm reminded of just how woefully behind our transit infrastructure is back home. I don't mean just Miami, of course, I mean the entire country. Wonderful to be here and enjoy it, but so frustrating in the same regard.

Anyhow, the trip has been great so far. Off to Helsinki today. I'll try to post some pics when I get back--especially of the Stockholm subway, which is like Nirvana (the place, not the band) for any transit geek. Hope everyone is well!
