This. The number of pretentious people in this city is absurd.

Does this answer your question?

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - also known as "the hippest little Capital on the Planet" ... it is seriously hip (a combination of San Francisco and Melbourne) ...

I think the top 5 hipster cities in Australia would be:

1 - Melbourne. Fitzroy seems to be hipster ground zero, plus there's the whole laneway cafe culture there that draws in a large hipster crowd.
2 - Sydney. Places like Newtown, Enmore, Marrickville, Glebe, Waterloo, Surry Hills and Darlinghurst are all hipster hot spots.
3 - Newcastle. Old steel manufacturing city, lots of derelict buildings in its CBD but these are slowly changing into cafes, small bars, galleries and small boutiques. Having a large university has helped the process.
4 - Adelaide. Emerging hipster culture in the inner city areas.
5 - Brisbane. Lots of hipsters around the Fortitude Valley area.

That is what I'm thinking as well as it is bohemian. Plus it is a techie city with Silicon Valley in the south.
