Breaking News - Maybe

Persistent rumors claim that a new investor from the US is closing in on a new deal that will Dubai Pearl raise from the ashes and provide relief for all stakeholders. Nothing via official channels, however this looks the best bet in years....

If you ask any TRIZ inventor, he will tell you there's a ton of more suitable ideas that can be realized here.

Al Burj should be built here. This would be grand, and not too far from original plans.

They'd be better off turning it into a nice park for students from Knowledge Village and workers from Media City to relax in.

The roundabout is elevated, can easily be accessed by foot at both ends. Dubai needs more green spaces, not half finished construction sites.

Sure it's exciting looking at all these renders of buildings that will probably never be built, but it doesn't make the place any better to live in for the majority of its residents.

Obviously it will never happen, but a park would bring more happiness to more people than yet another "mixed-use luxury development" with some offices, some serviced apartments and a half-assed hotel that most people won't go to unless they put their brunch on Cobone.

How can it be a construction update if there's no construction?

I just read through the past 20 pages or so of this thread. Five years of nothing happening on site, investors asking for advice on how to get their money back, and some optimistic souls throwing out faint hope of future completion dates that are now approaching alarmingly fast.

Worst thing is... you see something similar if you go back five more years. There were the exact same conversations going on ten years ago in this thread (just for fun, I clicked Like on some posts staunchly claiming that the project was not dead and would be completed on time in 2010 or so). This post is from ten years ago, to the week:

I think this project would make for a very interesting in-depth case study. I don't think it's the most borked construction project in history, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the top 20. It's in a prime location in a city booming with investments, but nothing has materialised in more than a decade after construction started. And the project appears to be too riddled with debt for anybody to dare pick up. Just getting back to zero would require billion-dollar investments. I wonder what will eventually happen to the site, if anything.

This is honestly kind of amazing.

If you dig even further back in this thread you'll see that this project had a completely different design very much under construction before going on hold, getting redesigned, demolishing what they had started building and starting construction over with the new design. What a mess.

Actually Al-Fahim Group (which owns Dubai Pearl) is developing a new tower next to IGO Tower in Media City which is part of their owned land in the Dubai Pearl plot. Seems like they can't get Dubai Peal financed so are opting for a more bankable option.
