The simple answer (again!):
a) Arthur Blank and Company have done everything you could ask of an owner in what they've done with the team. They've built great facilities, hired wonderful people at all levels, been responsive to fans and their interests, and as a result the fans have responded.

b) Atlanta is desperate for a winner and to really embrace a sports team. The Braves and Hawks are transplants and apart from one great run by the Braves they've not captured the city. The Falcons could do it as the south is football crazy, but until a few years ago they hadn't even strung together back-to-back winning seasons! Combined, Atlanta has the least amount of national titles (1!) than any other big city.

c) Our population is more international than most folks perceive. They, and many of us gringos, have supported local soccer before but we've all really responded to this as it seems like a great opportunity to make it our own.

Interesting, thanks. The long term potential of MLS is very big but hard to quantify. Sounds like Atlanta is not a crowded sports market and there are many cities in the US that could support large crowds. They cannot all have a successful team though so that might be the limiting factor.

I wish we FORMER San Diego Charger fans could have cloned Mr Blank and installed him as owner of the San Diego Chargers. But alas...oh well.

The Atlanta metro area is blessed to have a pro sports team owner like Mr Arthur Blank.
