Maybe not the appropriate thread to ask this - but vaguely related: In this Google earth image of the link road through Barrandov /Hlubocepy why is there a huge row of trucks parked at the side of the road on the way into Prague? Is this some sort of special traffic movement?
I think in the above picture the trucks are in one lane because they are restricted to a single lane so the other cars can move freely. I remember driving through that area several times in the past years and for a passanger car the movement is usually pretty good, but yes the trucks have it tough and end up moving so slowly or not at all at times during peak hours.
By the way trafic in Barrandov area is quite bad even with the restrictions, that is why it is urgent to build the southern Prague bypass. It is under construction and according to the government should be operational in 2009. From then on most trucks will use the southern bypass and not this road.
Another restrictions that are still present is that during the summer month (when czechs tend to go into country side every weekend) from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon trucks are banned from the roads. There is a talk in the government now to make this ban year round.
The picture shows the ceremonial breakthrough of the tunnel. The actual breakthrough occured a couple of days before, the tunnel walls were then secured and an artificial concrete wall shown on the picture was erected in order to be broken through in a staged official breakthrough ceremony, so that politicians can celebrate in front of medias in safety and according to their shedules.
^ on outer ring there are two u/c - Lahovice tunnel (1660m) and Komořany tunnel (1940m). On inner ring there is one u/c - tunel Blanka (3440m). Some others are planned so in a few years we can have more tunnels u/c at once.
