The bus that took me to Ikea Tebrau

Hello public, no need to hustle and bustle parking at the corner side of the roads. They even parked at the side of tebrau highway.
I was riding the shuttle bus alone and talked to the driver about this ultimate joke until we reached ikea. like a boss because I'm the only passenger. guys, come one. free service.

I will upload more photos about Ikea store later.
omg... they're no ads about free bus shuttle from ktm/larkin to ikea tho.. even all of johor's fb fan page sibuk to update about the long queuing than to promote the free bus service.. that's why! i laugh reading your post! hahaha

ikea tebrau is "on another level".
love the ambiance, detailing, lighting, cozy food court, entrance, floor, led display & etc.
overall, i think ikea tebrau offered exclusive shopping experience & definitely they are trying to upgrade the ambiance from typical industrial setting to mixed setting. I'm happy with what they've done. just to inform, ikea tebrau products are way much cheaper than ikea tampines.

example: POANG chair
tebrau - myr 519/sgd 170
tampines - myr 701/sgd 229

IKEA Tebrau opening marks our sixth store in Southeast Asia

Quote:
As for the shopping experience, the people of Johor Bahru had no less than 54 showrooms to inspire their home furnishing. Having previously opened six IKEA stores in Australia, IKEA Tebrau Store Manager Annie Chandler was clearly impressed.

“I don't think I have seen a store that looks so good at opening before. The room settings are like nothing I've ever seen before,” she said, further praising the efforts of everybody involved, including more than 300 new IKEA co-workers, when asked to sum up her feelings.

“I’m really proud of the team, there’s nothing more than that!”

Agreed with Annie Chandler

ikea batu kawan, penang as at dec 2017

The base of the store look massive. hopefully it will be as good as ikea tebrau or even better. But the location is not mature as tebrau after completion in 2019.
45 minutes drive from goerge town(city center) compared to 20 minutes drive from tebrau to jb cbd. I wonder how they want to decide about the shuttle bus routes. komtar penang-ikea batu kawan? butterworth-ikea batu kawan? This is something that I would love to see in 2019. haha

Wow things are moving really fast - they got some parts of the 1st floor up already !!!

ps wonder what type floor construction method they're using - see no formwork being used so must be concrete beams (a faster, but more expansive) method then eh ???

The RM600 million store 40,227 sq m store will be IKEA’s fourth in Malaysia, after those in Damansara and Cheras in the Klang Valley, and Tebrau in Johor which is slated to open by year-end.

It is expected to serve 825,000 households in Penang and beyond.

Rojkjaer said there were currently no plans to open additional stores after Johor and Penang.
the cost is myr 600m. higher than tebrau. size almost similar to cheras & tebrau. we can't really tell by looking at the store after completion. but, ikea batu kawan concept is the same as tebrau which is big blue box. ikea cheras is massive flat box. so, technically from outside it look very big although the size is slightly smaller than tebrau. regardless what size they are, I hope Kajima can deliver like Nakano did in tebrau. Very nice interior, lighting, layout & cozy restaurant.
at this rate of progress, I think it is possible to finish in 1st quarter 2019.
exciting time for penangites & people in northern malaysia.

maybe malaysia can consider to set up ikea pick-up & order point(pup) in east peninsular. I'm not sure if ikea pup is suitable to set up in borneo. the cost of shipping must be very expensive. but why not set up 1 there if the demand is high. At least can bring meatballs & other menu to those areas. Online store is not as satisfying as visiting the store or look at the real sample. you can't touch & test.

Similar to those of Damansara, Cheras & Tebrau. IKEA has been using Precast concrete for all structural components. Columns & beams are cast in a factory, then transferred to site for assembly (can clearly see in the pics; columns & beams are joined like Lego). this method will ensure precise coordination with M&E & architectural works. Hence the pristine building construction workmanship & speedy construction.

Many projects in MY are using precast systems nowadays esp public high rise housing etc.

Is this what they termed 'Industrialised Building System (or IBS)' within the construction industry ???
