Different in a good way or different as in a 17 year old who does his homework with a purple crayon?

When this was first announced, and when the initial renders came out, it's worth remembering that the general outcry was "What the hell, that's way too bland and monotonous to be built that tall!" It took a long time (plus more details and better renders) for myself and many others to start recognizing the elegance of this design.

If this is someone's first time seeing this tower, or if one hasn't paid a terrible lot of attention to it, a negative reaction is hardly surprising. But hopefully it will grow on those people the way it's grown on many of us.

monotonuous and simpicity are just what makes this design great.

I agree that that's part of it, but if it weren't for the little details -- the sunken window frames, the grooves at the intersection of the beams, and of course the open sections every 12 floors -- breaking up, or at least making variations on that monotony, this tower would not be nearly as sophisticated and special.

As it is, those subtle details elevate this tower. But those are the same things it takes someone a while to really notice.

I thought this building was very bland and too thin for it's impact to the skyline, but the more I see of it the more I like it. Still don't know how it will look from a distance but up close it's simplicity is what makes it look as good as it does.

I'm a maximalist - Gaudy, Gehry, Hadid!!! - but there are things that they have done with this that make me think I am going to like it. The proportions are going to look so interesting against the sky line, and those windows, my god did you see the size of them? I just hope that the streaks in the concrete go away.

Lol, you mean 'Gaudi.' Gaudy means something different, although it applies to some of his works.

So we can't say ugly, eh? Must've missed that memo. Well seeing as different doesn't equate to the same value represented by "ugly," how about disparate and emotionally void? Inhuman? Painfully bland? Proportionally inept? An eyesore?

Some people don't like this tower. Get over it.

Given the microbial size of the floors I should hope so. Surely that was part of the appeal of this design to the developer, knowing that construction costs should be marginally low given the paucity of material used and the quick turn around in construction. Wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be one of the most profitable building in NYC history.
