If they were going to trash it why didn't they do it two years ago when they knew they could not use the TG crane in NY. Just curious, seems like a slight waste of money.
From what I understand Cornell bought the jacking system from Falcon (as part of the auction liquidating Falcon's assets when Falcon went bankrupt) and bid on the job to do the steel erection. They did not get it, so now they are taking the system off the site - it's as simple as that...
I believe Cornell has some plans to re-use that climbing system on another project: it would require some re-work but nothing major than a steel erector/fabricator could not do.

Why wouldn't they just sell it to whoever is doing the steel now?

Most likely they couldn't agree on a price and/or the steel contractor who got the job already has his own equipment.
Cornell had other plans for this climber anyway.

Speaking of steel, do anyone know when we should start seeing the first steel going up? My guess would be not until all three tower cranes are in place, but could we see some before that?

Once the core is on 14th floor, steel for the floor will begin.

BTW, formwork for the NE corner moved back in preparation for platforms to jump.

It's at the 10th floor apparently. So steel probably won't resume until around spring I would guess...

It will be sooner than spring, keep in mind right now things are in a "restart" phase, cranes going up, climbing system being installed, etc so this floor is taking a lot longer than we will typically see.

Give it a few weeks and we will start to see a more normalized pace, I would guess to see steel by mid January.

Core forms are now going up to floor 11. You guys are probably right about steel coming earlier then spring, but I'm going with like February.

This will be rising quick now as the "restart" phase is wrapping up. However, a mechanical section is coming up for the core in about 3 floors, so it will slow down then.

It appears there are some new crane pieces staged at the southeast corner of the building. second crane going up soon?

^ I think those are parts of the climbing cage for the core crane.

Yes - it's the climbing frame of the Potain. One tower section should be added soon
