Jamia Osmania flyover opened

Private properties not to be touched for construction of stations

on an auspicious note: Traditional musicians performing ‘nadaswaram’ ahead of the inauguration of the road overbridge at Jamia Osmania on Saturday.

Hyderabad: Civic infrastructure in the city received a boost with the inauguration of the long-awaited Jamia Osmania flyover by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy on Saturday. The ROB will ease traffic congestion at the erstwhile level crossing at Jamia Osmania besides saving travel time.

Dr. Reddy also laid the foundation stone for a link road from Begumpet ROB to Fatehnagar. The Rs. 22-crore road will connect Begumpet, Nature Cure Hospital , MMTS station, India Gandhipuram, Renukanagar, Balkampet and Fatehnagar – a distance of 2 km. Later, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Metro Rail Bhavan at Saifabad.

Ministers -- Mohd Ali Shabbir and Mukesh Goud, and Members of Parliament -- V. Hanumantha Rao, Anjan Kumar Yadav, and M. Shashidhar Reddy, MLA, were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister rushed from one project to another and did not speak anywhere though a public meeting was arranged at Jamia Osmania.

Actually the link road is proposed from Raj Bhavan road to Balkampet covering a distance of 4.4 km to decongest the traffic between Erragada and Khairatabad junction, the main arterial road used by VIPs. Since a portion of the road from Necklace road and MMTS station falls under the water spread area of Hussainsagar and needs environmental clearance, the GHMC has taken up the portion where the site is clear. The four-storyed Metro Rail Bhavan will be the nerve centre for execution of the 67-km elevated project. The Bhavan also houses the office of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Technical bids from the five pre-qualified consortia will be finalised by month-end and financial bids by October-end. “The project will begin early 2008 and will be completed in four years,” said HMR Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy. He said as far as possible, private properties would not be touched. Only Government land would be acquired for construction of stations and parking area. The minimum ticket for metro rail will be Rs. 8 and maximum Rs. 11, Mr. Reddy said.
