Coimbatore Nov 10 (Nov 09):

International aircraft movements: 64 (70) -8.6%
Domestic aircraft movements: 991 (1206) -17.8
Total aircraft movements: 1055 (1276) -17.3

International passenger traffic: 8545 (7740) +10.4
Domestic passenger traffic: 95520 (80637) +18.5
Total passenger traffic: 104065 (88377) +17.8

International freight transport: 26 (68) -61.8
Domestic freight transport: 488 (566) -13.8
Total freight transport: 514 (634) -18.9

The passenger traffic is increasing while the aircraft movement is decreasing (this is not isolated to Cbe alone, Madurai too saw increased passenger traffic while the aircraft movement decreased). It can be explained by

1. Up gradation of aircraft type. Some carriers may have converted ATR's to narrow bodied jets. Instead of flying 2 - 70 seater ATR's, they may fly one 190 seater jet. So even though the actual number of air crafts decrease, the passenger number goes up.

2. Increased PLF.

3. Decreased cargo traffic, particularly in the international sector.

Really it looks great are the constructions are Aerobridges?
Yes, two aero bridges are planned.

http://www.hindu.com/2007/10/28/stories/2007102859730100.htm

Airport Director K. Hemalatha confirmed the approval and said the project would include installation of two new aerobridges, elevators/escalators and a conveyor belt to carry baggage. At present the airport does not have an aerobridge and passengers have to walk through the tarmac/apron and climb the passenger step ladder (PSL) vehicle to get onto the flight

Hi frnds.,
In the above posts I can see that Expansion works and installation of aerobridges are going on in the existing terminal. Previously I heard that a massive expansion(for which land is currently being aquired) including New integrated terminal bulding on the other side of the run way. If tat project is to be completed by 2012, what will be use of currently expanding terminal., or they are going to use both terminals for different purposes(International, Domestic and Cargo operations). Can anyone clear my query..?
