Saskatoon Developments

Okay I don't see any threads on this so I'll go ahead. Anyway, Saskatoon's south-downtown is a wreck. But thats all going to change in a few years. A new development called "River Landing" is being planned & built as we speak. This is very exciting for the citizens because the south downtown is in desperate need of a makeover. The plan is to build the following; "new park, the construction of hotel spa and restaurant, the potential development of a destination complex including a live performance theatre, a visitor destination facility, a major “landmark”, and a “Century Plaza” landmark feature." Plus thigns like a small water park, river fountians & lights, walkway etc...

Currently the south downtown looks something like this;

Here is the planned spa/hotel:

For more info on this please visit the officail site (I advise looking @ the interactive map.)

Also another big development thats happening near where I live is the high school/community-center/soccer-center. Called North East Colligate & Community Center.

Anyway I don't have any pics & I can't seem to find any yet. But when ever i drive past the construction it seems to be comming along great. The school/community center are schedualed to open in fall of 06. The outdoor part of the soccer center is already in use. All the buildings are to be attached. This location is perfect because it's situated near a public library (see floorplans) and it's a much needed addition to the north east psrt of the city, right now we all have to get bussed to the inner city schools (which aren't that great.)

Here are the floorplans: http://www.sbe.saskatoon.sk.ca/files...Collegiate.pdf

Also the cities officail site has lots of great information for people who arent really familuar with the area: http://www.city.saskatoon.sk.ca/org/...acts/index.asp

YAY for Saskatoon I love my hometown ... Although I can't view the images at the moment ... I'll have to check back later. But thanks for the news nightfire.

Aren't they also planning on paving the rest of the meewasin trail? I know that a lot of it is still unpaved on the university side.

Saskatoon needs to do something with that riverfront. It could be incredible if they were to create some beautiful park space with a boardwalk.

Well actualy most of the riverfront is parkland and trails. The mewassin vally trail runs most of the lenght of the river. And will be extended with this new project.

Of corse it is... Thank you. I just don't understand why some people think that a city with less than 300,000 people should have a 400 ft. office tower or something obscure like that.

Also I forgot to mention the airport... It was redone in 2003.

I did not know they redid the airport. It looks GREAT . I used to live not too far from it, and would always be able to see the snowbirds when they were doing their practice runs before the airshow .

Cool, the snowbirds flew over my house a last weekend @ the airshow (talk about loud!) So what area of the city did you live in? I live in the Eirindale/Sutherland area.

I also heard last night that they started construction on a hudge, 18 million dollar, stadium style theature, with 12 screens near river landing.

I lived until I was 5 in the Silverwoods area, and then until I was 12 I lived in the Dundonald area of the city... Then I moved to Regina, ugh...

There's some smaller scale projects going on that should, if successful, have a positive impact on the downtown as well

2nd Avenue Lofts
Fairbanks Lofts

...and a 15 storey condo is currently U/C on this site

can't find a rendering of it anywhere, so whether it will be another POS or something nice is still up in the air.
