Australia @ Night: 2012

Hey all, there has been a new set of satellite images of earth lights at night. Check it out, zoom in for more details for each Aussie or world city. Looks like there is a error in the lights, with much of the middle of Australia lit up, unless there is a huge huge huge rise in mining those lights cant be right.

Apparently the lights in central Oz are caused by bush fires.

Oz and NZ almost look abandoned in comparison with the rest of the countries.

Everyone here is living in big cities... our rural areas must be very boring.

I've heard the bright area in North Dakota is the oil industry, the oil sands. There's few people there but huge industrial operations. I wonder how much of the lights in WA is the mining boom and how much is bush fires.

You can easily work out where Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth are and I find that one can easily see the Nile River and Delta in Egypt as well.

Why is WA so well lit? I'm not complaining, because it does look beautiful. Interesting, but depressing, if it is bush fire.
