He said the project is also aimed at achieving the strategic objective of linking all areas of Dubai with drainage net-work by the end of 2011.

"The project was commenced on 15 May 2007 and is expected to be finished by mid 2009. It is being implemented as per advanced international specifications," Lootah said.

Later the station will be linked to a 10 kilometre pipe line that comprises of 1300mm double pipeline towards Al Khail Road and will continue towards Emirates Road to be linked to project DS 161 with 1400mm pipes. The new project will serve Al Sufooh, Jumeirah Palm and Al Barsha areas.

So is this a replacement for the sewage plant behind International city? Are the people living there finally going to be able to unplug their nostrils?

It doesn't replace it, but once completed this one, the IC one can get back to full capacity not 3 times over-capacity as it is working now.

... at least in theory.

New Dubai areas get drainage system

Several projects to deliver water for irrigation from the Jebel Ali waste water treatment plant completed

Staff Report

January 18, 2011

The Dubai Municipality's Drainage and Irrigation Department has completed several strategic projects, especially in the new areas around Shaikh Zayed Road, Business Bay and Dubai Marina as part of a plan to connect all areas to sewerage systems.
Talib Julfar, director of the department, said the establishment of a giant sewage water treatment plant at Jebel Ali, one of the five largest strategic projects undertaken by Dubai Municipality, is part of its strategy to deliver services in all areas.
"It will be the main sewage treatment plant for Dubai in place of the current Al Aweer plant," he said
The first two phases of the Jebel Ali plant were completed in April 2009 and it has begun operations, easing pressure on the Al Aweer plant.
Second phase
The second phase was completed last October. The odour treatment plant was also completed.
"The Dh1.55 billion project, covering an area of 670 hectares, has the capacity to process 300,000 cubic metres of waste water per day," Julfar said.
The second project is the construction of a sewage water pumping station and pumping lines at a cost Dh580 million.
The third project is the construction of a sewage pumping station and the pumping lines linking up to the main treatment plant at Jebel Ali at a cost Dh191 million.
Julfar said the department completed the implementation of several irrigation projects to achieve its objective of delivering water for irrigation from the Jebel Ali plant, especially to the new areas in Dubai.
