The map in the first post of ECONOMY section doesn't work anymore. There is a good map which shows the administrative sistricts of Azerbaijan and can be used in the first post of economy section: http://azembassy.co.kr/sefirlik/az/azerbaijan_map.jpg

What about to move this thread to Euroscrapers??? As far as i see it doesn't make a sense to keep it here with countries that has nothing in common... No people from Far-east Asia have any interest in Azerbaijan. Also it doesn't fit here well since all the topics subjects concern Europe, not Asia

If we write about sport - all the tournaments we have are european championships;

If we write about Politics - it is connected to Europe: Council of Europe, OSCE, European Court, EU...

If we write about Economu - it is Europe again with trade, European Bank, Nabucco...

Believe me, it doesn't really matter where your section will be. Kazakhstan also was in European Section and it did't bring that much attention. To be honest, if you want more interest from all over the place put more threads in international sections and keep them updated.

Okay, but Israel also plays in European Championships. So what?

The same happens with Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan - they are members of OSCE an etc.

OSCE Member States Map.

Council of Europe Member States

I'm wondering why you want yourself to be associated with Europe while you are Oriental by culture?

We are a Caucasian nation, what is up with these arguments about what nation we are?

Continent discussion is a different thing and I believe we should be in Europe there. We have territority in Europe, officially. North of Caucasus ridge are considered as part of Europe and parts of Azerbaijan lies to north of that ridge.

Evertraveller, how can you compare? Azerbaijan is considered as a part of Europe by EU.

1. ISRAEL has a special status and entered to European football federations because it is not accepted by the Arabic countries neighboring it.

2. OSCE - You are right, but OSCE has European member, North America and Central Asia. We (Caucasus) are counted within the European members.

3. Council of Europe - The map you show is the map with members and some associate members and observers (like US). The member countries can be only European. Algeria, Indonesia, Colombia or Tukmenistan... can not take a part there.

4. There are more organisations in Europe where we take a part like European Bank on Reconstruction and Development, European Court on Human Rights, dosens of conventions within Europe (we signed almost all of them)... And yes Azerbaijan is a european country according to EU.

For a mod, I would except you to be smarter. Or at least as a person from Kazakhstan, a former Soviet country that might know about Azerbaijan more then a average person.

Azeri culture is a part of Caucasus regional culture.

Oriental is Middle-Eastern + Asian stuff. Wich Azerbaijan as a Caucasian nation are not part of.

You don't know what your talking about.

Yes, we are. Check EUs website.

In my previous job I was responsible for sales in 9 countries including Azerbaijan. I have friends in Baku and most of them modern, they speak several languages and they are really nice but they tend to keep traditional Asian/Oriental style in their families, at home and in public. Maybe less for guys, but ladies 100%.

Okay, I can only say that you're as european as turkish people.

I have a couple of questions:

1) Does Azerbaijani citizens really want to be a part of European Community?

2) Does the Government think-and-act the same way?

3) Is there any date assigned to apply/enter EU?

First of all, no one is claiming here us to be a part of EU soon. It was said that EU considers our country as a European NON-EU member and the proof for that was given - the official website of EU.

Second, Azerbaijan as well as some 5 other European ex-Soviet countries is included in the special Program by EU - Eastern Partnership. The main target is to create closer collaboration between EU and those 6 countries up to free trade area and abolition of visa regime.
It was not announced by the government, but many representatives of governments and even the president spoke about the gradual integration to European community.
As for the traditions, Azerbaijan is a cacucasian country and some traditions are the same like in Georgia and Armenia. It doesn't have anything with Islam or so but Caucasus plays a great role there.

P.S. I am sorry for the other users writing in a bit excited way.
