Leader Madi does so many other good developmental activities... Thus these trivial things such as statue erection are overshadowed by his massive developments in the fields of irrigation, power, industries, etc...

3 leaves party does only trivial developments such as statues, arches, conversion of buildings (library/tnla to hospital, etc).

Massive significant PROJECTS have remained only on paper (eg monorail, flyovers, elevated exp ways, etc)

There is a good rapport and friendship between the two leaders...

Hence I think she can learn from her Gujarat counterpart on how to execute projects and convert plans into actions...

So many PROJECTS are in limbo and need to be expedited.....

Hope

It is not a question of hate/love her. I am just stating the fact and and one cannot brush it under carpet. Our people are always in self denial when it comes to moral values. I dont have problem with other people's personal life, but only concerned about irresponsibilty and wastage of tax payers money.

Oh gawd...still harping on this topic are we.. Don't make such a big hullabaloo about nothing....nowadays the definitions of a Bitch and a Bastard have long transcended their intended usage. Today , they are commonly used to refer to a hated, pain-in-the-ass man or woman .

Here's one of the definitions of the of both Bitch and a bastard from the oxford dictionary .

Bitch :

Quote:
2) informal a spiteful or unpleasant woman.
black slang a woman (used in a non-derogatory sense).
a person who is completely subservient to another.
Bastard :

Quote:
2) informal an unpleasant or despicable person:
he lied to me, the bastard!
[with adjective] British a person of a specified kind:
he was a lucky bastard
British a difficult or awkward undertaking, situation, or device:
it’s been a bastard of a week

Amend rules for Greater Chennai, suggests Madras HC

Quote:
The Madras High Court has suggested that the government amend the relevant rules to bring in areas that were recently brought into the city limits for local administration purpose.

Holding that the addition of new areas to Chennai city for local administration purposes will not have any bearing on the territorial jurisdiction of the Chennai City Civil Court, Justice S Nagamuthu gave the direction.

If the State legislature intended to add any area into the Civil Court or High Court’s jurisdiction, it could be done by either amending the Madras High Court (Jurisdictional Limits) Act and the Madras High Court (Jurisdictional Limits) Extension Act or by bringing in any new legislation. Only the two enactments occupied the field as of now, Justice Nagamuthu said.

The question before the high court in a revision petition challenging a Chennai City Civil Court order in a case relating to a property suit was whether Kathirvedu village in the city’s north west part was within the city civil court’s jurisdiction or not.

An argument before the civil court was that as per a Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department’s July 2011 government order (GO), entire Kathirvedu had been brought within the Chennai Corporation’s limit. The civil court accepted this contention. The village was originally within the jurisdiction of the District Munsif Court in Tiruvottiyur. The revision petition challenged the order of the civil court.

Justice Nagamuthu said a plain reading of the GO would make it clear that the order had been issued under the Chennai City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) Act. The order would not alter the Madras High Court and the City Civil Court’s territorial jurisdiction. It would cover only the subject dealt with in the CCMC Act. Thus, the lower court was not correct in holding that Kathirvedu fell within the city’s jurisdiction, he said and transferred the case to the District Munsif’s court at Tiruvottiyur. When it was informed that several such suits had been entertained by the City Civil Court by relying on an order of the High Court in an earlier case (Pappamal vs TNEB), the judge said that it was for the respective civil court to decide about the future course of action as per the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC).

Automated system to show the way for streetlights

Quote:
The Chennai Corporation is all set to put in place an automated control system for monitoring streetlights in the city.

The Corporation this week called for expression of interest from companies for a pilot study and proposal for the automated facility.

The system will facilitate updating of data on burning of streetlights and immediate remedial action towards restoration of lights that fail to burn.

The civic body is at present maintaining 2.13 lakh streetlights, of which over 3.65 percent are found ‘not burning’ every day.

The control room in Ripon Buildings will monitor streetlights and facilitate quick action for restoration. As part of the initiative, a study on 4,569 individual streetlight fittings in locations including Chintadripet, Ashok Nagar, Velachery and Adyar will be conducted. A proposal for the automated system will be made shortly.

Over 100 LED streetlights and 413 sodium vapour streetlights in Chintadripet, 570 sodium vapour streetlights in Ashok Nagar, 1,048 street lights in Adyar and 2,437 streetlights in Velachery will be covered in the pilot project.

Chennai Corporation has already initiated programmes to replace 60,000 old streetlights in eight added zones. All the new 60,000 streetlights will be LED lights as they last five times longer than do sodium vapour lamps.

The initiative is expected to bring down energy consumption by 25 per cent and save 36 lakh units in the coming year. Most of the new streetlights on key stretches are expected to be commissioned soon. The streetlights will be centrally monitored through a web page in real time.

IOC develops biodiesel coprocessing method

HOUSTON, May 20
05/20/2013
By OGJ editors

Quote:
State-owned Indian Oil Corp. Ltd. (IOC) has developed and commercialized a technology for coprocessing nonedible vegetable oil in a refinery diesel hydrotreating unit to make biodiesel.
During development of the method it also created a process for demetallization and degumming of vegetable oils.
IOC demonstrated the technology at the 190,000-b/d Chennai Petroleum Corp. Ltd. Refinery at Manali. Chennai Petroleum is part of the IOC group.
The refinery’s diesel hydrotreating unit, operating with a specific catalyst developed by IOC’s research and development center, used up to 6.5% of jatropha oil with the refinery stream.
The company ran 200 tonnes of jatropha oil supplied by CREDA Biofuels Ltd., a joint venture of IOC and Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Authority.
During the trial, IOC said, the diesel cetane number improved by 2 units, sulfur content diminished, and the inlet temperature of the reactor could be reduced by 100º C.
IOC said its coprocessing technology yields biodiesel with a higher cetane number, better oxidation stability, and lower density than biodiesel produced via conventional transesterification, which requires a separate plant. It said its coprocessing method, which can be deployed in existing refineries with minor modifications, has an operating cost about 50% lower than that of conventional biodiesel facilities.

Speed up road projects, PM’s adviser tells state

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Chennai: A week before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to leave for Japan, his adviser T K A Nair was in Chennai on Monday to hold discussions with state and central government agencies to help speed up high-cost road and bridge projects, especially the Ennore-Manali Road Improvement Project (EMRIP). The project would ensure hasslefree cargo and container movement for Japanese firms that use the Chennai and Ennore ports.
Nair held discussions with industries secretary N S Palaniappan, Sipcot chairman and managing director Swaran Singh and representatives of Southern Railway, Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Chennai port and Ennore port. “Nair took stock of the progress of work on the roads leading to the ports. He urged stakeholders to finish the projects at the earliest,” said a senior government official, who attended the meet.
Bad roads hamper the transportation of cars manufactured by Renault Nissan Automotive Pvt Ltd for exported via Ennore port. The manufacturing plants of Toshiba-JSW Turbine and Generator Pvt Ltd in Andarkuppam on the Thiruvottiyur-Ponneri-Panchetti Road also face similar problems. The shipping of turbine generators to thermal power stations in Karnataka is planned from Ennore port. Sources said the required infrastructure would have to be in place at the earliest and roads and bridges between the plant and Ennore port need to be completed soon.
The NHAI has promised to complete widening of the Thiruvottiyur-Ponneri-Panchetti Road, Manali Oil Refinery Road and Ennore Expressway into four lanes and construction of the Napallayam bridge soon. The state’s projects will be ready only next year.
“The TNRDC has prepared detailed project reports for the rail over-bridge at Athipet, Pulicat backwater bridge and Buckingham canal bridge. The tenders for these projects are in the final stage. But the projects can be completed only by June 2014,” sources said. The state government sanctioned 84 crore for road improvement work and in March directed Tangedco to hand over a piece of land on the North Chennai Thermal Power Station Road to the state highways department on a longterm lease for strengthening work.

Chithamanur layout by June

Quote:
The preparation of layout for Chithamanur Industrial plot with an extent of 32.26 acres in Maraimalai Nagar is in progress and is expected to be completed by the end of June, according to CMDA sources.

The layout is part of the Maraimalai Nagar New Town scheme and it got the approval of the authority on July 2011. “The land will be purely used for industrial purposes. The contract has been awarded to a contractor and the work is in progress with an estimated cost of Rs 14 crore,” the CMDA source said.

Also a few acres of land have been encroached upon and pose a hurdle for developing the industrial layout. CMDA sources said that few encroachments exist in the portion of land earmarked for the park. “These will be removed soon,” said the source.

It is learnt that the construction wing has urged the senior estate officer to evict the encroachments. The government decided to take up the development of New Town at Maraimalai Nagar near Chengalpet on 1972 and acquired 1,852 acres of land in nine villages of Potheri, Katankulathur, Kilakaranai, Ninnakkarai, Chithamanur, Gudalur, Sengundram, Thirukatchur and Peramanur.

Interestingly, 1,572 acres were developed for residential, industrial and other purposes in the form of 14 residential neighbourhoods and five industrial areas. However, the remaining plots of land lay scattered covered under court cases and some under encroachment.

The area got a boost with the allotment of bulk lands to Ford India for establishing their automobile factory. CMDA sources said the allotment of land to Ford has served as impetus for the overall growth of Maraimalai Nagar and also created the demand for development of housing, commercial and industries activities including the service sector.

Sources said once the layout for the Chithamanur Industrial plot is prepared then it will be given to the industries. The focus is now more on laying roads, drainage and lighting.
