Also, we haven't gotten the renders directly from LA 2028 but I did see from materials they've sent out that they have renders of the MPC and IBC. So...

Media Press Center

International Broadcast Center

So far we haven't seen any renders of USC Village in Media Village mode, hopefully that exists too and we can see it sometime!

ETA: answer to pesto's question (i.e. what these places are) on the last page

International Broadcast Center - that's where the various TV channels from around the world can set up and broadcast the Games back home. So that's where NBC, BBC, NHK etc. all build their TV news sets and coordinate on air coverage of the Games (think Bob Costas' show each night during the Olympics)

And regarding the distance, you're right, usually the Media Press Center and International Broadcast Center are one and the same (that's how Paris is doing it for example). However, given LA 2028's commitment to using already built facilities, it didn't make sense to build a Newspaper style newsroom on the Universal lot. And considering that the Annenberg journalism center is brand new AND right across the street from where the media will be staying, it just made sense to separate the MPC and IBC this way (and the IBC is still just a Metro stop away! Take the expo line to 7th street then the red line to Universal City and you're right there)

ETA: Oh and regarding the hookers, well I know of a little motel in Inglewood...
Thanks for the info. Another question: why don't the media stay in one or more hotels? Why is it the Olympics problem to house them?

As for the hookers, those in Inglewood cost 100/hr; those for reporters on assignment cost 1000/hr.

Seems it varies from city to city. Tokyo isn't building one and I know London didn't build one, instead LOCOG block booked hotel rooms years in advance for accredited media (non-accredited media obviously look after themselves).

I can see putting the athletes in a village with security: otherwise 1/3 of them would get themselves drunk, killed or beaten senseless outside of some strip club or dive bar.

But with the media? Who cares what happens to them?

I'm impressed! Not only appropriate but I've never heard it before.

If you spend much time dealing with real people you find that a fair number of young women have escorted to get money at some point in their lives. Sexual mores are much more relaxed now than in the past.

In any event, send the upscale hookers to the media village and the down market crowd to the athletes' village. And Inglewood. And my place.

http://www.dailywire.com/news/19869/...jeffrey-cawood

The last week or so has been dominated by outrage and sarcasm aimed at Estanguet for his apparent support of egames at the Paris Olympics (plus some almost incredulous support for the idea from the gaming industry).

For a nice change, here is an article from the LA Socialists promising to disrupt every event in 2028 and most of the events before that. Their main concerns are police brutality to minorities, corporate profiteering and displacement of the poor and disempowered.

It seems to me that LA could do all that even without the Olympics, but what do I know?
