Buranda Health Precinct (PA Hospital, Clanwilliam & Others)

This tread is dedicated to the encouragement of a Health Precinct at Buranda.

There are a few DAs which i will try and load but most are from Private Health groups and most towers proposed are well over 15 stories.

Pretty impressive revitalization and a good addition to the Boggo Road Health and research precinct.

From the Local Plan:

3.1 Buranda Precinct
This precinct is revitalised, capitalising upon its proximity to the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Eastern Busway. Non-residential uses front onto Ipswich Road and O’Keefe Street, creating a highly active frontage to these busy roads. An improved streetscape along these roads with widened footpaths and boulevard planting creates a strong landscape image and attractive routes for pedestrians and cyclists.
Development supports a high level of accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists, with cross-block links improving pedestrian permeability within the precinct and allowing better connections between the Princess Alexandra
Hospital, the rail and busway stations and surrounding residential and employment areas.
A public park of approximately 4,800m² is provided between Wolseley and Carl Streets through development.
This open space, along with the High Street focus at the intersection of Tottenham and Wolseley Streets, creates a hub for social interaction.

Buranda Core Sub-precinct
A mix of predominantly non-residential uses is supported with a strong focus on medical related services. Development up to 15 storeys includes offices
and some higher density residential development, and active uses at the ground level. Retail activities are focused on the Centro Buranda site supporting the High Street role of Tottenham Street.

Buranda Corridor Sub-precinct
Predominantly non-residential development frames O’Keefe Street and Ipswich Road. Development is of a lesser scale than the Buranda Core Sub-precinct with a maximum building height of 12 storeys.

Buranda Residential Sub-precinct
High density housing is encouraged within easy walking distance of the busway stations. Short term accommodation is supported and actively encouraged. Small-scale office and restaurant uses are permitted at
ground level fronting Cornwall Street to continue the activation of this street.

Looks like Buranda is on the way to becoming a nice little precinct. It'll be a good compliment to the Boggo Road Urban Village, if it is ever completed that is!

It will be very interesting to see if Buranda will ever become a suburb in its own right. Woolloongabba is massive!

From memory, part of Buranda stretches into Greenslopes as well. With the more extensive development occurring, turning it into a suburb might be a good idea.

Yes like Teneriffe regained suburb status, but with more substance.

With more substance? What does that mean? Teneriffe had plenty of history to entitle it to regain separation.

Sure and is the justification for regaining a separate suburb status only to pay hommage to that? If this is an accepted reason then why not Wellers Hill and Rosalie and Stones Corner and Mobraytown and Boggo and the rest.

It only happens when people with time on their hands can take up a cause enough make someone in council listen.

Who cares if an area is called one thing or another and whether that is "officially" recognised? Suburbs are pretty much meaningless, except for a postal address. And even then postcodes often cross more than one suburb, so it's the postcode that matters more.

The ABS doesn't even use suburbs to delineate areas under their new geography standard.
