CEO of Metropoliten says that construction works on the other extension of M1 to Mladost 4 (and Business Park Sofia) will begin on 20.04.2013. The section is 2.7 km long and includes 3 stations.

EXTENSION OF LINE M2 WILL START IN AUTUMN OF 2013!



Sofias Mayor Mrs. Fandakova today announced that the line M2 will get additional extension southwards by one station by 2015. This station at Hladilnika neighborhood and Srebarna street will also serve two big hospitals un the region and the biggest mall in Sofia. The segment will be 1,3 km long and should enter service in Q3 2015.

Also construction of additional 3 stations on line M1 to Mladost 4 will start on April 20th this year.
With these additional 8 or 9 stations by the end of 2015, Sofia should have around 35-36 station and a system long about 45 kilometers.

While expecting the signing (on 20.04.2013) of the contract for M1 branch to Mladost 4 and Business Park Sofia, the construction works of the other M1 extension to Sofia airport are going in full speed. Here's a short HD video

The design of the Iskar station on line M1 towards the Airport, currently under construction and due to enter service at the end of 2014. This is the 22nd station of line M1.

M2 station Hladilnika

The project for the newest 12th station of line M2 in Hladilnika has already been approved by the Metropoliten and the tender for it is expected this month. Construction should start as early as this autumn and finish within 2015. Here are some details of it:

Total length - 1,2 km
max. tunnel depth - 19 m
station depth - 16 m
no. of vestibules - 2
no. of exits - 8
construction metod - New-austrian
also included in the project:
- service depot at the end of the line for two trains
- auto tunnel on the intersection between Cherni Vrh blvd. and Todor Kableshkov blvd.
cost - app. 30 million euro

This will be the 8th station that is currently under construction bringing the total number of stations in Sofia metro to 35 by the year 2015.

Urbanrail changed Sofia map so the construction of both brunches of line M1 is updated. Also the path of line M3 is updated in correlation with the new project:

I have to deal daily with an extremely unreliable old system over here in Munich. One of the economic and therefore tax powerhouses in Europe. No money for major improvements in the last and even into the next decade. They are ruining overall German infrastructure while they invest so much in the EU periphery. That is somehow unfair. We work 50 60 hours a week suffer on extreme taxes and still need to ride a retarded subway or commuter rail system. Streets are getting worse winter by winter BTW.
