Concept design

"We are working on the project at moment, but we hope to respect the time schedule and start with construction work in summer 2018" said Atalanta CEO, Luca Percassi.

Concept design

According to the first info, Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia will become a covered stadium with services. The project, developed by De8 Studio (the Percassi Group's architecture firm that is responsible for coordinating all of the technical aspects related to the construction plans for various real estate ventures), should be conceptually similar to Opel Arena (Mainz, Germany).

The stadium looks better than Empoli's new stadium because there are seats in the corners and they keep a historical facade =)

Smaller cities need 20.000-25.000 seater stadiums.
Cities with 300.000-700.000 inhabitants should build 30.000-35.000 seater stadiums.
Only AS Roma, Naples, Juventus and the two Milan clubs should go above 40.000 seats and not more than 55.000 seats.
I know Fiorentina will build a 40.000 seater. It might be perfect, but then again a bit too big. Lazio should build 35.000 seater stadium.

Atalanta confirms stadium purchase
http://www.thestadiumbusiness.com/20...dium-purchase/

Serie A football club Atalanta has today reached an agreement to buy its home ground, the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia. The club, which is based in the city of Bergamo, is now expected to draw up plans to redevelop the stadium in the coming months.

The club was named as the preferred bidder for the stadium back in May. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but Atalanta would pay €8.6m (£7.8m/$10.2m) to own the facility, and an extra €2.6m to cover renovation work carried out at the stadium in 2015.

Atalanta president Antonio Percassi said: "Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia has always been the home of Atalanta and Atalanta fans. It is a great pleasure to have finally become the owners as well. This is a fundamental step for the present and the future of our club. Today we make history, every Bergamo resident must be proud of it. We have made a great investment with the goal of making the stadium more modern and welcoming for our fans."

Mayor of Bergamo Giorgio Gori added: "The choice of the administration was found in the brave investment of Atalanta, who, after an extraordinary season, wanted to give their fans the chance to see a dream come true. It was a very complex journey, of which I would particularly like to thank the Valesini councillor and the municipal offices involved, as well as the Percassi family. Now, together with Atalanta, we can finally dedicate ourselves to the project and then to the construction site. The new stadium, which we firmly wanted to keep in town, will also be an opportunity to improve and revive an entire part of our city."

That's the best solution! Hope that other cities and teams do the same.

Here some numbers:
Capacity > 24,000 seats
Investment > 35,000,000 euro
Construction work > 2018-2020

The project, developed by architecture firm Studio De8, keeps the stadium historic facades (protected by the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage), while both curvas will be demolished and rebuilt close to the field. A new roof and hi-tech skin will envelop the new property stadium. Inner spaces take inspiration from Borussia Dortmund's Westfalenstadion (Germany), designers said.

The project also envisages the creation of underground parking, new plaza, pedestrian areas as well as improving the roads and transport links around the stadium. On the ground floor there will be retail/food/services area with ramp access to the stadium (first floor).

Italy's banking group UBI Banca and Italian Credit for Sports will finance the new stadium.
