They found the biggest medieval grave yard outside London on the site where the John Lewis store will stand in Highcross Leicester. 1,300 skeletons buried between the 12th century and 1573, when St Peter's church was demolished. The remains of the church were used to build the nearby Grammar School, which has been retained within the new shopping complex.

Thankfully on that ocassion, the scheme was not held up!

It does look very similar to that Central Village project.

I've been looking around the Liverpool developments. Some cracking stuff should be in place there for the year of culture!

Is the triple height floor being counted as one storey or three?

We need to maintain our reputation as home of the East Midlands tallest scrapers

I'm a bit surprised about the quoted height of 117m. Looking at the renders the floors (lower ones at least) look to be around 12ft per floor including the skybar. Even if the residential part were only 9ft per floor (including the floors themselves) that would give a figure in the region of 420ft (130m)

I hope the 117m is an estimate

I thought I'd have some fun and produce an innaccuarate portrayal of what the Simpson Towers may look like on the Leicester skyline, if anything it gives an idea of the scale of the buildings.

btw, the photo was taken from Commercial Square, Freemans Common today. There are a few others I took and shall post them in the Leicester projects thread.

I think that when the smaller towers were proposed they said that the 26 storey one would reach the same height as the top of the cathedral spire. So perhaps that one might be a bit lower.

I believe the 117m figure is an estimate that caught on because I haven't seen it in any official documents. I estimated it to be between 130 - 140m based on the render in comparison to the smaller towers, which we do know the height of.

I too have been wondering what the height of the tallest tower will be? Ive seen reviews of 107-119m's

So ive decided to ask the question directly to Westbridge Living Ltd. Will let you know the response, when I get it.

Iíve just been looking at the plans for the Simpson Tower which was submitted to the city council last year.

I thought the scale drawing of the tower in relationship to the other buildings was interesting.

Great post Kurt. Gives an excellent of idea how the waterfront will look, in the West Bridge area.

Looks quite stylish I think and a massive improvement!

To be honest the existing Westbridge Living buildings look dominating, especially approaching the city from the west (Hinckley Road). The elevated drawing shows how insanely huge even the smaller No.1 Westbridge buildings will look.

Is it my imagination, or are there 42 floors on the taller building? I though that 39 was in the approved application?

Had an email from Westbridge living today (as I registered interest on their website). It states:

We are still putting together our high quality design team and going through all the detailed design of the project. We are hoping to make a start in February 2008.
Looks like we have a possible start date
