Texas Tech Breaks Ground on Student Housing Complex

Quote:
August 8, 2013

University leadership today (Aug. 8) broke ground on the latest student housing complex, offering new housing alternatives on the Texas Tech University campus. Approved by the TTU System Board of Regents at the December 2012 meeting, the two-building community will be located east of Knoxville Avenue in the triangle bounded by 19th Street and Texas Tech Parkway. A pedestrian walkway will connect the two communities. The buildings will be positioned around courtyards and green zones and hold 455 beds. The 234,501 square-foot complex, expected to open in fall 2014, offers a choice of 61 one-bedroom units, 47 two-bedroom units and 75 four-bedroom units ideally structured for graduate and upper-level students. “Texas Tech is experiencing a period of tremendous growth in many areas, including enrollment,” said Texas Tech University President M. Duane Nellis. “This is a testament to the recruitment efforts of our admissions staff and the standard of academic excellence set forth by our faculty, staff and students.”

Pioneer Natural Resources announces construction of building at ClayDesta, Midland

http://zieglercooper.com/pioneer-natural-resources-3/

Quote:

Construction cranes will dot the Midland horizon this fall as Pioneer Natural Resources begins construction on a $50 million office building at ClayDesta on North Big Spring Street.

Scott Sheffield, Pioneer's chairman and chief executive officer, said construction on the six-story building will begin in September or October and be completed in October 2013. It will include a large workout facility and a cafeteria. A three-story parking garage will be built adjacent to the office building.

"We looked at whether it was worth buying an older building and the cost to reconstruct it and (starting) from scratch," he said.

Company executives decided employees would get a better building by constructing a new facility.

"The employees helped choose this site," he said. "It's closer to their homes; it's close to Loop 250. We did consult with our employees before beginning negotiations with ClayDesta."

Clayton and Modesta Williams both noted that since purchasing the land 30 years ago, they had ridden economic ups and downs. At one point, they had to sell the ClayDesta building; they eventually were able to repurchase it.

SM Energy begins construction of office building in Fasken’s Vineyard Office Park

SM Energy, which began life 105 years ago as Saint Mary’s Land and Exploration, has partnered with Fasken Oil & Ranch on a new office development.

SM, which opened its Midland office in December 2006, held a ceremonial groundbreaking Thursday on its new regional office building in Fasken’s Office Park at The Vineyard, the planned community Fasken is developing on Holiday Hill Road.

The 58,000 square foot, two-story building will house 125 SM Energy employees — the company currently has 75 — and is expected to be completed in March. The company also has an option to build a second building at a later date. “The new building is evidence we want to stay and grow and recruit and bring new talent to the Permian Basin,” said Tony Best, SM Energy’s chief executive officer and director.

Best laughed as he noted that when the company first arrived in Midland, its first staff meeting was held from the kitchen of Newt Newton, SM’s senior vice president and regional manager, Permian. Since then, the company has grown to hold 125,000 acres in the Permian Basin. Of that 125,000 acres, almost half — about 66,000 acres — is in Borden, Lynn and Garza counties, where the focus is on the horizontal Mississippian play, which SM calls the Tredway play. A recent well came in at over 1,000 barrels a day, Best said.
