Subi Lords to reopen tomorrow
3rd July 2009, 10:30 WST

More than 1000 people are expected to mark the reopening of Lords Sports Club in Subiaco tomorrow, three months after Subiaco City Council decided to save the popular facility and run it as a community gymnasium.

The upgraded club will have a specialised fitness studio with 60 group classes each week, a 25-metre heated swimming pool, tennis courts, squash courts and sports competitions — all indoors.

Its official opening comes more than six months after the club shut amid claims by the former operator, the Kerry Stokes-owned Foxington Pty Ltd, of skyrocketing rents under a lease agreement with the council, which owns the building.

The council had been in long-running negotiations with Foxington Pty Ltd to buy the plant and equipment, naming rights and a release from legal action.

But the deal was no certainty on it continuing to operate Lords as a gym and sports centre, which was dependent on a new business plan and feedback from community consultation.
The club was previously used by 15,000 people each week.

The new club will have a fully equipped gym, specialised fitness studio with 60 group fitness classes each week, 25-metre indoor heated swimming pool, indoor tennis courts, squash courts as well as indoor sports competitions.

Subiaco Lord mayor Heather Henderson said yesterday there had been a lot of work involved to get the centre ready for its reopening. More than 90 staff had been employed to run Lords with 20 to 30 umpires set to be employed in coming weeks.

Ms Henderson said the city had received more than 250 membership inquiries in the past week alone with old members also keen to rejoin.

Former top-ranked Australian tennis player Alicia Molik, who recently moved to Perth from Melbourne to be with her boyfriend, was at the club this week 30/6 for a hit out with her coach Rob Kilderry.

Molik, a former world no. 8 who retired from professional tennis last year after a run of bad injuries, said the courts were fantastic and she would be there a lot more.

COVENTRY SQUARE MARKETS Morley

Western Australia’s proposed premier markets "Coventry Square Markets" is scheduled for completion in March 2010.

Prominently situated in arguably the best retail location in Morley, this new market is positioned approx. 100m from the bustling Centro Galleria Shopping Centre and is directly opposite the Morley Markets.

As a veritable mix of restaurants, cafes, speciality shops and markets, it will be a focal point for both local and overseas tourists.

The café strip at the front of the markets is where all the eateries will be located. This area will be the focus for all the restaurants, cafes, bistros and a microbrewery.

Highly trafficked with excellent exposure Walter Road West and easy access from all directions.

Hello. Does anyone know anything about the building going up to the immediate east of the five Hill 60 towers, on the Rivervale/Belmont foreshore? There is one small banner on it saying that it is Byblos Waters (I think... the banner is half fallen down), but I have not been able to find any info anywhere. It is quite large - both wide and tall. I can see it going up from my backyard in Bayswater. It irritates me not knowing what it is every time I go out there. How can something that big not be googled in this day and age?
