New IKEA store for South East QLD

It looks like IKEA are rolling out a super store in Queensland.

The lease on the existing store at the Logan Homemaker Center is set to expire in 2006, making way for the move south along the M1 Motorway. Still in the Brisbane ~ Gold Coast Corridor on the M1.

There is an online web survey where you can 'name the store'. Silly and I guess aimed at Marketing purposes.

From the Ikea website "We are currently undergoing expansion in Australia and our aim is to ensure as many people as possible have access to an IKEA store"

Update.

If the map does not display go to ikea.com.au and select Springwood, then the new store link.

they should be opening up a new store on the northside, like in between bris and sun coast and leave the existing one inbetween bris and gold coast. its silly that they only have one store in qld, not that i would buy any of the cheap crappy furniture, but closing one store just to open up one down the road is silly.

I believe a store would be opening on the Northside, as part of a $100m Australian expansion plan.

Prior to Homebush and Richmond opening the Springwood store was the largest in the country.

But will it be as large as the Ikea store in Stockholm?? - featured on Amazing Race last night - it's the biggest in the world. I'm assuming no.

They should call it 'Ikea Southside'. Ikea Logan, Lkea PAcific Highway and Ikea Paradise road all sound really lame. 'Ikea Southside' is the best of a really lame bunch.

Id say it will be around 20 000sqm. I can't see it being as big as Sydney or Melbourne stores.

Huuuuu? I'm confused! But this article says it will be the biggest in Aus?? 29,000sq store!

Ikea store assembly goes to plan

APRIL 28: The Ikea development at Slacks Creek is on target to open in October, says project manager Andreas Petersson.

``We are now less than six months away from seeing the first full-sized Ikea store in Queensland,'' Mr Petersson said. ``The new store in Logan will be the largest Ikea in Australia and is designed to cope with more than two million visitors in one year.''

Construction started last September on the 29,000sqm store, which will monopolise the corner of Paradise Rd and Pacific Hwy.

Ikea construction manager Richard Hynard said the structural frame was progressing well.

``The demolition and civil trade packages are now complete,'' he said. ``Erection of steel framing and steel wall cladding is expected to start in May.''

The $150million development, which will be four times the size of Ikea on Springwood Rd, will create more than 300 jobs.

Mr Petersson said the store would stock more products and feature a 300-seat restaurant with bistro and delicatessen.

A $150million giant homemaker centre is being built next to Ikea.

Some parts of it are. The walls in the Adelaide store are from Sweden.

Yeah, I'm on the board of Ikea Australia... no...The fact is that this just contributes more to our already booming economy... And it's not just a store its more than a store! If you have only been to the one in Logan, i can see why you don't giva a dam...i wouldn't! but this will be similar to the one in homebush bay, Sydney which is IMO really good! that's my explanation...

ohhh and not to mention the 300 jobs from this... nagelixin seems to be also excited about this!

The new store is under construction on the corner of Paradise Road and Pacific Highway at Slacks Creek near the roundabout.

Oddly enough the map has it wrong on it's location, it's on the other side of paradise road. There is going to be a new busway station built across the pacific highway service road opposite it. One wonders if Ikea customers and PT users are ever one and the same.
