I am going to assume the title is incorrect but anyway

Quote:
Melbourne Tullamarine Airport pax up 2% to 3.2m in Oct-2017
Melbourne Tullamarine Airport reported (17-Nov-2017) the following traffic highlights for Oct-2017:

Passengers: 3.2 million, +5.9% year-on-year;
Domestic: 2.3 million, +4.4%;
International: 894,447, +9.9%

https://centreforaviation.com/news/m...er-2017-740502
The quoted statistics add up (compared to last year so going to assume 2% is in error); iff so very good month yet again for Melbourne - infact it is one of the best.

^ yup title heading clearly wrong.

Based on the % increases that is a HUGE increase for October to smash through 3.2 million.

Int’l increased another 80,327 pax!
Domestic increased ~ 98,000
Overall growth increased ~ 178,000

Will update when the offical figures released by Melbourne Airport.

Nothing seems to be slowing MEL down.... it’s going to burst at the seams soon.

Love to see the BITRE stats when they are released to see where this int’l growth is.

Also the massive population growth of MEL would be contributing as people continue to flood here from overseas and interstate. It’s really phenomenal how many people are moving here. It’s not just Melbourne Airport but Melbourne in general is struggling to cope and keep up.

As an immigrant myself (Canada) and as much as I love this place and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else in Australia there is no question this growth is slowly chipping away at our “liveability.”

And of course having a nonstop link between my two homes coming up just amazes me. Moving here 14 years ago I honestly never would had imagined a direct link between MEL and YVR. My parents are also looking forward to their next trip next year downunder on this flight. Hopefully other family members and friends will utilise this flight too.

^ Yeah I drove past the airport about 4:30pm and it was in prime viewing position off to the side of taxiway Beta.

Doesn't seem to have left MEL yet according to FR24?

2017 Finacial Year International Traffic Bitre Results:

https://bitre.gov.au/publications/on...ity_FY2017.pdf

Also September Tourism stats were released by Tourism Australia:

http://www.tourism.australia.com/en/...-arrivals.html

Overall Growth was weak with only 2.4% YOY, lowest in some time, lead by a massive 7.4% fall in New Zealand traffic, but this appears to be a one off event affected statistic as New Zealand was up 11.8% in November 2016. Europe has also had a small decline of 1.7%. On the other hand China over the last 3 months has rebounded, up 18.1% in September after year on year growth feel into the single digits in the first half of the year. India's pace is also picking up, up 21%.

Just look at those numbers....

In just two years MEL Int’l has increased by over 1.5 million.
SYD has increased by over 2 million during the same period.

So far in 2018 MEL’s growth has been higher than FY 2017’s.

And it was up 0.2% which considering the amount of capacity added is very impressive. We don't know what effect there has been on yields but we do seem to be keeping up with the capacity additions.

I went past yesterday too, looks exactly like the renders!

It’s great to see JL have confidence in the MEL market and adding more capacity into the market, little steps! They have also picked up AY and LA codes for the flight too, LA pax can actually connect in MEL to JL’s NRT service, though the connection doesn’t quite work the other way.

Just shows how underserved MEL-Japan was and how the market is not Sydney nor Queensland orientated like in the 90’s anymore.
