Hedberg crane base now concreted in...it is the white concrete patch with 4 attachement points just at the back of the old Hedberg garage facade.

Further delay to the crane installation - another 4 weeks away apparently. And my spies tell me that completion of this proect has now slipped to the third quarter of 2019...Hobart builders are so slow!!!

Seems crazy - this aint that big a building!!

Piling machine has reappeared on site...all Hensen's seem to be doing is going further down into the ground and never out of it and upwards!

OK - the image below shows the last of the concrete piles being poured to enable the sub basement works to begin underpinning one of the theatre spaces in the new building.

Now if, and its a big if because to date my spies have not been exactly 100% correct with their intel, sometime next week we shoud see the first of the pre cast concrete walls being installed in this area. Then the ground slabs will start being poured which will enable some proper building work to start.

Its been a long time coming but I think we are now at the very beginning of some substantial progress on this site.

Well, it seems my spies were correct about the panel installation starting this week...good to see some actual building work underway for a change. Now all we need is the tower crane to be installed and this project will start to look like it means business.

Only 2 guys seem to be working on this important building site site today...lol...no wonder this project is going to take another 2 years to finish!! The rest probably called in sick...unbelievable.

Latest report from my 'spies' has just come in.

Keep an eye on the webcam for Thursday as the components for the tower crane are scheduled to be delivered. Then grab your cameras as Collins Street will be closed on Saturday and Sunday while Hobarts 4th tower crane is erected - weather permitting.

One interesting rumour, which is yet to be confirmed, is that due to structural loading issues with the Hobart Rivulet most of the lower part of Collins Street is likely to be closed to through traffic for the entire 17 month period of the build. If true, Hobart's traffic congestion is about to get a whole lot worse. But that's the price of progress.

Crane is taking shape with two sections of vertical now installed. Should be finished today, taking the count to 4.
It appears that white is the default colour for Hobart Tower Cranes.

While most of us are looking up, there has been plenty of action down in the dirt... I reckon we will start to see some serious vertical projection soon.

Based on this story from the Uni we should see some major above ground works well underway by Christmas.

Quote:
A 39 metre crane towering over the site of Hobart’s new creative industries and performing arts development, The Hedberg, marks the next stage of development of the $96 million project.

A partnership between the University of Tasmania, the Theatre Royal and the State Government, The Hedberg will be a contemporary landmark containing three new performance spaces and new patron facilities, collocated with the existing Theatre Royal.

The building will deliver a performing arts venue with a new Conservatorium of Music while also fostering interdisciplinary research and education, facilitating local and global exchange.

Director of the Conservatorium and the University’s lead academic for The Hedberg project, Associate Professor Andrew Legg said it was exciting to see this next step towards what will be one of the most significant additions to the Tasmanian cultural landscape.

“Tasmania has stormed onto the world stage as a cultural and performance hotbed and The Hedberg will sit at the heart of this continuing resurgence,” Associate Professor Legg said.

“The Hedberg is a game changer that will bring together research, teaching and performance, attracting talent from around the world and nurturing the talent we have here in Tasmania.”

Recently completed works on the site include in-ground works, all piling and ground beams and a pre-cast concrete plenum to provide air to the recital hall above.

The addition of the crane, which will be on site for the next 52 weeks, marks the next stage of development including the installation of precast concrete walls for the lift shafts and stair wells over the next two months, followed by ground floor concrete slabs and structural steel framing for the recital hall.

The Hedberg will incorporate interdisciplinary, flexible and high-tech laboratory spaces to support visual and performing arts, classical and contemporary music, film, architecture and hybrid design practices.

It will be equipped with state-of the-art acoustic, visualisation and computing technologies, as well as flexible laboratories, practice rooms, rehearsal and performance spaces, a Creative Technology Studio, Recital Hall, contemporary foyers providing new audience facilities for the Theatre Royal and a Studio Theatre space.

The Hedberg name is drawn from the Hedberg Brothers Garage which was built on Collins St in 1925. The garage is recognized for its heritage value and its fašade will be an important aspect of the design of the new complex, as well as serving as the key access from Collins St.

The project is funded by the Australian Government, the University and the State Government. The project is due for completion in 2019.

Still pretty slow going. They have been simply been moving dirt around for weeks with not much more to show for it. Hopefully, we will see some more concrete panels being erected reasonably soon.

The temperature is above 25 degrees so it appears that work has stopped on site early...no sign of any activity by the 5 or 6 guys at all since about 3.00. No wonder this project is not sheduled to be finished until August 2019!!!

Signs of life down at ground level...my spies tell me a lot of the vertical concrete panels are currently being poured and should be on site and starting to be erected in December. First will be the various lift shafts.
