Gold Coast's CBD

Just wondering which one of these do u think is Gold Coast's CBD or future CBD- My tip is Robina will start to take over.
Surfers Paradise - The most famous part of the Coast

Broadbeach - The home of the casino, convention centre and pacific fair plus many new projects

Southport- Has alot of Businesses there and is kind of the Commercial hub

Robina - the Dark Horse, is growing at an amazing race and already has a few small commercial towers going up, home of austar hq as well and the new stadium, also has a railway station unlike the others.

What about Bundall?

Gold Coast is strange - there are office buildings going up in all those places, also they are going up in Beenleigh and Yatala (also part of GC).

As far as a "down town" goes - Southport is ideal.

I'll vote Surfers. Tourism is still business.

Just wondering, how about Coolangatta, which has the airport I believe.

I stayed at Miami awhile ago. Is there a better map going around.

The Oasis shopping centre should be condemmed. If you make the mistake of going there, please don't look up. The inside of the awning sails is covered in mould. Plus it was home to the bristro who painted over a dead rat - as they were too lazy to pick it up.

I am not sure wether this bristro is still open. Numerous fines.

well the Robina Chamber of Commerce has almost as many members as the Surfers Paradise Chamber of Commerce, so technically, Surfers is still the CBD, but Robina will take over soon. I think because of the Gold Coast's rather odd predicament of being a conurbation, we are in the prefect position to start satelite CBDs. Bundall or Southport SHOULD be the major CBD, hence seperating the commercial and tourist sections of the 'inner city'. Then Robina and Nerang should at least be developed as satelite commercial CBDs. They are perfect for it. PT connections majorly need upgrading but. Even if there was just a mass transit system from Southport to Broadbeach, that would be a hell of an improvement.

Unlike others, the town planning of Robina seems very car-dependant, such as a shopping centre surrounded by huge car parks and campas style business parks. The CBD has to be pedestrian friendly IMO and Robina is far from it.

Gold coast doesn't have a Central business district. It has Distributed business districts. This suites a modern car based city focused on the beach with little in the way of office based industry such as finance, admin etc. Sunshine coast is similar.

I wouldn't consider tourism as business, but rather industry. I wouldn't consider a major industrial area as being the CBD for an industrial town.

The term Satellite Central business districts is kind of an oxymoron isn't it.

The major business districts do seem to be Southport and Robina.

At the moment I would have to say Southport for Business. I would love to see them develop Bundall as a commercial centre, office towers, not necessarily overly tall ones would look awesome surrounding the racecourse(long way off I know). I love the way talls surround the HK racecourse, its an awesome site. Imagine going to the races and feeling like you were in the thick of everything else around. Its also one of the most central areas of GC with a great road network, all it needs is a good PT system.

Yeh i agree wit GMAC, Currently i'd say Southport will be the CBD(and currently is) but seein as how fast things develop on the Gold Coast, its hard to pinpoint where the CBD will be based at in the future.
