Openstreetmap
Hi everyone,
there seems to be no existing fault-free plot map of Dubai Marina anymore - the old one is gone and many other ones are very old and very wrong. A master plan of the city should be useful most of the time - for example I am looking for a new apartment in Tecom right now and finding a building on a map is impossible. Since I have some free time at hand I was thinking of using Openstreetmap to get all the buildings properly registered, including names, height & number of floors. Result would then be a zoomable, complete map of Dubai Marina, JLT and Tecom, available for everyone. Openstreetmap is an independent, non-profit mapping project, bound to lead to much better maps in the future. In places like Europe, OSM is extremely strong on map quality and right now, I am trying to reach the same in Dubai.  I have already worked hard on JLT in the last weeks - please check the situation now, the maps are great with cluster names and all buildings drawn in and named. I would like to achieve the same with both Marina and Tecom. From there, I will work my way more towards Downtown and the older part of Dubai, but one thing at a time I have added most of the buildings in Marina and Tecom, they just do not have names yet. And this where you come in. I am trying to gather information "by foot", walking around the area and snapping pictures of the buildings but so much information is already in this forum. If you could help me it would improve Openstreetmap so much. What I am looking for in a first step is one of the older overview maps, preferably the one from page one. We could then "fix" the map and in a later stage I would move the information to OSM. Anyone interested and willing to help? Please find a link to the map below: http://osm.org/go/zC9ObLb |

Great idea for the Map! Google Map is just so inaccurate...
Regarding the sand removal could it be that: 1) Marina is filling up slowly with Sand (proof that with no maintenance it would turn into a swamp) OR 2) the lower part of the retainer wall is broken and sand/mud/whatever is pouring in the Marina? Anyone recall similar operation in the past?

It's obvious and to be expected that sand will be deposited in the marina basen with all the water movement on it, and cleaning operations to be performed from time to time. What did you expect?

That what is man made is man maintained no need to patronize me I was curious to know if its the first operation like this since the creation of Marina.

Rejoice folks: a significant part of Dubai map has been updated today.
Now you can notice new developments on JBR beach and Palm fronds, updated crescent hotels and Tecom towers construction, new Skydive runway, and of course, everchanging Dubai roads!
