Great potential here. I have hopes. My feeling is that two rivers business district will take off faster than this. All in all these places will totally change Nairobi in the next 10 years. UpperHill is still raw, if we had visionary leaders, it could have been turned into the nerve center /city of the future, but instead we are doing the opposite. Upper hill might turn out to be a mess if action is not taken to rectify the trend.

With Kidero gone.

The lobbying power of the corporates and Upperhill District guys should be stronger and urge the governor to ensure Upperhill is properly turned in a business node.

You would have thought they would have good lobby power but with the goings , it gives me a feeling the Upperhill assoc is doing little. These companies
should come together and transform Upperhill street by street.`Look at 4th Ngong ave for example. Property owners on this st should come together, contribute 10 -20M each, design, implement and build proper road/infrastructure for this street. Initially this might look like a added cost but would easily bring the property value up if well executed. I also understand that its the county's job but its the best way forward. It worked in our estate in south c which was clean and excellent. This should work in the CBD, Upperhill Kilimani and Westi . Time we took control instead of waiting for govt.

Tatu City announced on April 11 that it has put on sale an additional 100 quarter-acre plots following increased uptake at its residential project, Kijani Ridge. The development project which sits on 2,500 acres comprises residential, commercial, industrial, tourism, social and recreation amenities for more than 100,000 residents and hundreds of businesses.

“The addition of Lifestyle Heights to the residential options a is testament to the mixed-income ethos of the project, providing a wide spectrum to the market,” country head for Rendeavour, Tatu City’s majority owner and developer, Nick Langford said.

It is impressive what private developers are doing. But it is only natural that they will target the upper middle class and the rich. The government now needs to focus on simple and affordable housing projects with subsidized rent in order to eliminate slums in major cities

Tatu City kicks off its electricity generation bid
Business Daily

Quote:
Developers of Kenya’s largest mixed-use development, Tatu City will in a fortnight apply for power generation licence with the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC).
Tatu City Power Company will on November 20 seek the licence if no individual, company or association objects to the request. The firm plans to supply the power to consumers but has not publicly disclosed the generation method or cost.
The 5,000-acre Kiambu County proposed city has attracted scores of industrial entities to its 425-acre light industrial park special economic zone.
Country head Nick Langford said the project will not hurt any business, environment or individual within the facility.

The move follows findings by a US-based Power Engineers Inc. hired by Tatu City developers to establish the viability of a power generation.
“Tatu City, the mixed-use satellite city near Nairobi has selected Power Engineers Inc to consult on the development’s power requirements. Power Engineers is one of the largest consulting engineering firms in the United States,” Tatu City said in a statement.

Power Engineers Inc clients include the World Bank, US trade and development agency and Inter-American development bank.
Local companies currently developing warehouses and industrial plants include global coffee roaster and market, Dormans, tissue maker Kim-Fay, Heineken beverages distributor Maxam, Chandaria Tissue factory, Africa Logistics Warehouses and Unilever.

According to their plan, Ruiru-Kamiti road will form the main street through the commercial zone. They had better make it a wide boulevard like Kenyatta avenue or better with a pedestrian friendly approach (wide tree lined pavements with benches).

Mhh.... Am I the only one who has been expecting serious (wide) roads inside the Mini City?? I hope they do proper planning and deliver world class amenities.. They should deliver a modern city from the word go and not highways that are 2X2 and other roads that are 1x1. From the latest posts, i havent seen any wordl class road... qualty is good but capacity and future expansion and scalability with multiple channels like light rails ?????
