I'm not sure if the same will be followed everywhere as the landscaping at Parade Grounds was done so early keeping in view of Republic day celebrations.

Related article from last week-Hyderabad Parade Grounds stretch to be beautified for Republic day

A lot of research was done on sun-shadow analysis, sun path, corporate signage space, pedestrian linkages, research on plants that could survive in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Of late the defacing of metro rail pillars has become a major problem, but the officials of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) seem to have found a solution. A stretch of 200 metres in front of Parade Grounds would be beautified before January 26, 2015.

Exotic plants and flowering plants would be grown under the viaducts and creepers would be grown on the piers. The open space would be decked up with flowery plants. “Just wait for a few days, the Parade Grounds stretch would be transformed,” says N V S Reddy, MD, HMR.

Unlike other metros in the country, there would be no chance for beggars to occupy space under the viaducts. andscaping would be an integral part of the structures. Creepers would be grown on piers to avoid people from sticking posters. A senior official of HMR said a lot of research was done on sun-shadow analysis, sun path, corporate signage space, pedestrian linkages, research on plants that could survive in Hyderabad. Art forms and sculptures too would be considered for beautification.

N V S Reddy said, “An All-India competition for landscaping was held last year in which 50 architects from across India participated. The architects came up with designs keeping in mind the architecture, climate and available building material in Hyderabad. Now the designs are HMR property. The beautification project would use a few aspects of the designs selected and ideas of our own people would also be used.”

Once the Parade grounds stretch is completed, the landscaping between the pillars and under the viaduct would be taken up in other areas. Krishna Mohan, MD, Infotrans Engineers P Ltd, one of the consultants working on the station improvement at Nagole and Uppal said, “The HMR officials are keen on aesthetics and want a litter-free environment. We have been given specific ideas to work on.”

half assed

This is what I call half assed Indian way of doing things. What do they mean that the stations will be ready by March 14 and operations will begin on Mar 21.

The roads and sidewalks below are in shambles. Drains, Bus bays, parking etc. are not built as per promises. Pillars, viaducts etc. are unpainted.

My recommendation is to not release it before proper preparation.

Thank you

We are used to the attitude "Will fix the train when it is moving" ... therefore it Hyd Metro is not any different. Metro will be inaugurated and they will finish the pending work as it goes along...

Realigning Metro to cost Telangana Rs 800 crore

The realignment of Metro Rail at three locations in the city, as sought by the Telangana state government, will not lead to as heavy a financial burden as is being claimed by project developer L&T, said Hyderabad Metro Rail officials.

While L&T has been claiming that the realignment will impose an additional burden of nearly Rs 2,000 crore, HMR officials have submitted a report to the government that it would only be about Rs 800 crore.

HMR officials opined that that this could not be termed as an "additional burden" since the government had agreed to pay compensation of about Rs 400 crore to property owners in the old city for demolition in the old alignment.

However, with the implementation of the new Land Acquisition Act, the compensation had doubled to Rs 800 crore and the same money could be utilised to bear the additional financial burden on account of the realignment.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is keen on realigning the Metro at Sultan Bazaar to save heritage markets, nearly Assembly building to save the T-martyrs’ memorial and in the Old City to save religious structures.

He had even made an announcement to this effect in the Legislative Assembly and also held series of discussions with L&T officials on the issue.

HMR managing director Mr N.V.S. Reddy had submitted a report to the government explaining the financial implications if Metro was re-routed.

He had stated that the Metro route would increase by 3.2 km on Corridor-II due to realignment in the Old city but only a few properties would be needed to be acquired, against the 960 properties earlier.

The article also mentioned about a fountain, isnt it? The restored sidewalk looks aesthetically pleasing (like the one in today's banner ) but I am not sure if entire stretch (from YMCA to Paradise/CTO junction) work is completed as this was for Republic day. I hope this is not how it is done on the entire length especially at the junctions as it is used by lot of people. Still it is very good if they can keep the hawkers & squatters away.

Like Fouz said the trees could've been planted b/w the grass patches. This is how the sidewalk looked couple of years back wide and green

Don't worry Mr. Tankbund. They are already on it.

If the sidewalks and medians in Nagole to Mettuguda stretch are anything like the Parade grounds work above (but for the few flaws) Hyderabad Metro Rail would be by far the most aesthetically pleasing metro in India.

Quote:
The Chief Secretary desired that in Nagole-Mettuguda stretch which is getting completed, all the ground level works such as improving the carriage way, sidewalks and junctions in this stretch are to be taken up on priority by GMHC and HMR. Within the Metro station area roads, HMR will carry out the works and beyond the station area, GHMC will improve the roads.
