The buildings on that site are being demolished today! I noticed another car yard has been emptied further up the strip too - hopefully more developments of this standard are on the way.

Surprised it was approved. ToVP has a 3-4 level limit on Albany Hwy.

I spoke to ToVP planners regarding the 4 level limit and delivered the typical pro-development, anti nimby stance (Perth has one of the largest per capita carbon footprint in world, destroying farmland on edge of suburbia, sick of spending 1hour driving to see friends in outer suburbia the only places they can afford, blah blah blah) and said that the WA government still wants a tram in front of the property (ToVP has an active working group) and the fact that the premises is almost in front of the ToVP town square (also has an active ToVP working group).

Not sure if there is any 'performance criteria' in the ToVP planning docs but is there some kind of provision / discretion for architectural design excellence since it looks like it belongs in Swanbourne or Claremont quarter ?

What waste of money? It's a joint venture with the property owner

This is interesting, seems like they incorporated the mid-rise around a courtyard idea that Alannah McTiernan was pushing a while ago.

http://stirlingrise.com.au

Even though it's been a bit Perfed, with the courtyard looking slightly tokenised and bordering on 80's CBD office vibe, but still it's better than nothing. Also, my Auntie and Uncle have an 80's house near there, and it has a central courtyard as well, maybe they're just referencing that style.

Anyway, I thought it was a bit interesting.

How can you tell that there's a courtyard? Classic Berlin. Alannah loves that city (as do I). It is a great way to design apartments compared to the complete lot coverage that we tend do here. Sadly we prioritise setbacks to rear and side.

One of the pictures in the moving banner has a tree growing up through the middle of the complex. Hard to tell exactly what it's about though.
