HCL opening its development center at the end of 2009

New Delhi-based IT software development and services provider, HCL Technologies, is set to invest Rs 1,000 crore in its new technology hub, which was inaugurated at Noida, near New Delhi, today.

The company expects the new facility to generate over $1 billion from software exports annually, and is targeting a 30 per cent growth in revenues over the next five years.

HCL also has plans to set up units in tier-II cities such as Nagpur, Madurai and Lucknow. The units at Madurai and Nagpur, which will cater to undisclosed new micro-verticals for the company, are expected to be inaugurated by the end of 2009.

First township in Mihan launched

First township in Mihan launched

Nagpur: In yet another step forward, the first integrated township within the Multimodal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (Mihan) was launched here on Sunday. First City, an Indo-Malaysian venture will have several first to its credit besides being the first highrise residential complex within the Mihan project.
The project is being developed by Mumbai-based Reatox Builders and developers, which has 68,000 square metres of construction of prime property in and around Mumbai and over 94,000 square metres of projects under various stages of development to its credit. Malaysia’s top construction company, IJM Corporation Bhd, which has worldwide presence through its Indian subsidiary IJMII will be the engineering procurement contractor for Reatox. IJMII will build the township and also market it.
First City will be spread over 31 acres of Mihan land and comprise 12 building blocks each of 18 storeys, said Reatox managing director Atul Shirodkar at the brief launch ceremony. State BJP president Nitin Gadkari was the chief guest at the function.
“First City has been designed keeping in mind the high comfort levels that its future residents would desire. The first mega-mixed residential complex will have 2,300 exquisitely designed apartments with several utilitarian and recreational facilities,” said Shirodkar addressing the elite of the city present at the launch. For the first time new construction technology of laying slabs as well as brick-less walls will be used in the project.
First City’s highlights will be facilities like gym, separate pools for adults and toddlers, health spa with jacuzzi for ladies and gents, in-door games, badminton, basketball, tennis, squash courts, children’s play area, restaurant with partying space, multi-purpose halls, senior ciitizens’s park, jogging track, food court, polyclinic and shopping area.
Extending his full support to the project, Gadkari said he was confident that it would be completed within 27 months as stipulated by MADC which has leased the Mihan land for First City.
“I am looking forward to Reatox taking up bigger townships spread in at least 400 acres around Mihan,” said the BJP leader who described Mihan-SEZ as the biggest development project of the country.

Mass rapid transport system to be developed for Nagpur

Quote:
Nagpur (PTI): The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) will develop a mass rapid transport system (MRTS) to cope with the growing demand and population of the city.

The MADC along with Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) and Maharashtra Industries Development Corporation (MIDC) have come together to develop the city.

State Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has recently appointed former state chief secretary Arun Bongirwar as the Officer on Special Duty exclusively to look after the proposed MRTS project in city, a release from MADC said on Thursday.

The project would be taken up in phases. As per the consultant's recommendation, phase I will be completed in the next five years. This will meet the major requirement of Nagpur and make it one of the most desirable cities, according to Vice-Chairman cum Managing Director of MADC, R C Sinha.

Nagpur is a fast growing city with a population of approximately three million with multifold horizontal growing. It is likely to touch five million in the years to come. The prestigious multi-modal international hub airport (MIHAN) being set up in city is likely to generate direct and indirect employment for upto 3.5 lakh persons.

The project will add nearly 12 million population to city. With this the vehicles on roads will increase tremendously and present roads will not be able to cater to the needs and hence MRTS was conceived, as best feasible solution, release added.

I am extremely skeptical about all these projects. Cargo Hub is moving very slowly. Now we have a Mero rail proposed. I do'nt know whether they will be able to complete this project in time. I alweays keep my fingers crossed for projects in Vidarbha. Past experience is very bad about execution of such project. They always plan something but whether they will be able to complete or allowed to complete that god only knows

MIHAN is happening. Fast and how!

THINGS are moving at an astonishing pace at the Multi Modal International Cargo and Passenger Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN). With the irrepressible R C Sinha at the helm of affairs, being the VC&MD of the ambitious project, and a passionate team to support him, infrastructure works are certainly in high gear.

The Central Facility Building (CFB), being built in an area of 22,000 square metre, is expected to be completed by July 2008. It will house various offices including that of the Development Commissioner, Central Excise, amenities like couriers, banks and the office of MADC itself. It will also have an Incubation Centre to allow software companies to kick-start their work immediately. A whirlwind tour of the site revealed that most of the work on internal roads are nearing completion. MIHAN has a road stretch of about 52 kilometre within its precincts. Pillars have already been installed on the 2.7 km flyover connecting Wardha Road directly to the Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The 3-storeyed telephone exchange building, built on 15,000 square feet of land, will be completed in another nine months, it was learnt. All the electric supply sub-stations (six in all) have been differently and intricately designed and are nearing completion. Likewise, work on the Ground Water Reservoir (GSR) - that will get water from Wadgaon Dam - and on the elevated water reservoir (24 metre high) just beside it, is in full swing. The two reservoirs have a capacity of 170 lakh litres and 17 lakh litres respectively.

I am not sure but I think Satyam and HCL should start in mid 2008 and S&P, L&T after that.

200 Starbuses across city by March 2008

Quote:

Nagpur: For an expanding city which doesn’t have public transport as one of its strongest points, this will be good news. Starbuses will run on all routes across the city by March 2008.

Vansh Nimay Infraprojects, the company which operates Starbus, has assured to run over 200 buses by March 2008, while the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has assured to withdraw nearly 190 city buses all over the city, informed municipal commissioner Sanjay Sethi, while speaking to the media on Wednesday.

Recently, it was decided that the MSRTC will withdraw all its city buses plying in various routes by March and the NMC would take complete charge of the city transport system. The NMC would further use the MSRTC setting up new bus stops and generate revenue thorough advertising. Soon, the NMC and MSRTC will sign a contract regarding the use of bus stops and other junctions for advertising purpose, Sethi said.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation (MADC), along with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and the Nagpur Improvement Trust, has jointly formed a consortium to set up a mass rapid transport system in the city (MRTS). A new company will be formed to implement the project, with MADC having a major stake in it while NIT and NMC will be stakeholders, Sethi said.

The NMC has already prepared a master plan to be used for MRTS project and the plan will be placed before a general body meeting for its final
approval soon, Sethi said.

Along with the introduction of Starbuses, plans are underway to launch the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS ) which will make public transport quicker. The NMC has appointed L&T Ramboll to prepare a techno feasibility report and a detail project report for BRTS, Sethi said.

Civil Aviation Ministry does a U-turn

NAGPUR: Ministry of Civil Aviation has done a volte-face again over the transfer of Nagpur airport to newly constituted joint venture company and has refused to spell-out time-frame required to honour its solemn commitment given to High Court on October 10.

Shattering the hope of Vidarbhaites that airport transfer will be done in a short time, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry filed a detailed affidavit on Friday afternoon claiming its inability to do so in absence of a nod from the Union Cabinet. It once again stated “it is a policy matter beyond the scope of judicial review.” The affidavit has also raised a serious question-mark over the solemn assurance given by the Additional Solicitor General of India Amrendra Saran on October 10 promising “to bring good news” during the next date of hearing and sought three months’ time to complete the entire exercise. The High Court had granted six weeks to Union Government to complete the necessary formalities to take the decision of Nagpur airport transfer and had observed “The government may have numerous difficulties, granting such long time (three months) and delay in the project will ultimately be not in the public interest.” Taking a very generous view, the High Court had indicated that two weeks additional time would be granted to complete the task. However, with eight weeks coming to an end on December 11, when the next hearing of PIL filed by Vidarbha Economic Development Council demanding early transfer of airport is slated, the Ministry of Civil Aviation did a u-turn and repeated that its proposal has been sent to various ministries for comments, suggestions and objections, if any. They will be compiled by the Ministry and a detailed cabinet note will be circulated. The Union Cabinet is alone empowered to take the decision about handing over assets belonging to Union of India. In case of contradictory views between various ministries, the Cabinet may constitute a Group of Ministers (GoM) to take a comprehensive view, the affidavit stated. The affidavit also exposed the hollow commitment of Civil Aviation Ministry towards early completion of Multimodal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) or Cargo Hub project. It is being viewed as breach of commitment by the Ministry headed by Praful Patel, which had made promises to High Court and climbed down from its original confrontationist stance. Believing in this change of heart, the High Court had also noted with satisfaction, “We hope that the Union of India will come with a positive decision taking into account the larger public interest.” Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) finds itself at a dead-end as Civil Aviation Ministry has again decided to adopt a obstructionist stance against airport transfer and described the subject matter of PIL as policy matter beyond the scope of judicial review. Transfer of airport is extremely crucial to get Multimodal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) or Cargo Hub project going, the PIL had claimed. The JVC was formed following difference of opinion between Government of Maharashtra and Ministry of Civil Aviation. Later, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Maharashtra Government and Union Civil Aviation Ministry was also signed. After that, it was widely believed that airport would be smoothly handed over to JVC. According to MoU, the transfer of airport was to be over by June 18, 2007. The Ministry of Civil Aviation had then claimed that a cumbersome procedure needed to be followed before the actual transfer took place. This had witnessed public spat between two Union Ministers from the region both questioning each other’s intentions and sincerity.

I know there is no Amravati or Vidarbha thread here so I am just going to post this in the Nagpur thread.

The Nagpur airport transfer is in trouble again but Amravati is getting a new 400 crore rupee airport, just so that the President (her hometown is Amravati) can fly there directly!! The population of Amravati is 0.5 million (Nagpur's is 6 times that). The airport has already been approved by the Civil Aviation Ministry!!

Prez perks: Rs 400-cr airport for Patil's hometown
CNN-IBN report video
http://www.ibnlive.com/videos/53881/...-hometown.html

he Maharashtra state administration is gearing up to develop the infrastructural facilities in Amravati, the hometown of President Pratibha Patil. A new airport with an estimate budget of Rs 400 crore will be built soon in Amravati. This construction has been approved inspite of Nagpur airport being just a three-hour drive away from Amravati.

The decision to spend crores for an airport has been taken even as the state government remains unwilling to write off the loans of debt-ridden Vidarbha farmers.
