I doubt that. Unfortunately, there are no projects similar in size with this one.

That's not relevant at all. There always will be large-scale renovation projects with a need for such skilled workers. Also, more and more New Classical buildings are erected. Additionally, more and more regions consider or already start reconstructing lost buildings. Think of huge projects like Budapest's Museum of Transport. Then, there's probably the baroque Saxon Palace in Warsaw about to come back, among others. And don't forget about Potsdam's Garrison Church project, it's right next door to Berlin. Berlin itself may enter a phase of serious considerations for the Monbijou Palace, too. There's loads to do throughout Germany and Europe!

erbse: I'm betting there will be strong opposition to the rebuilding of the Monbijou Palace. That is some much loved open space in the Mitte area that the locals will fight to retain. What are the plans for the use of the Palace?

Ah well, that idea is far-fetched for now. Of course open space would remain with the Monbijou Park.

We're getting Schinkel's Bauakademie back first (just opposite the Stadtschloss).

Have they already begun the reconstruction of Garrison church? I couldn't find any information online. Sorry for asking on this forum.

This thread is for Potsdam's reconstruction projects. But no, they haven't started with Garnisonkirche, except the top parts that are on public display, see here. They're good to go though, currently collecting more donations for the tower reconstruction.

Nice aerial perspective. From the east, it's reminiscent of Palast der Republik. From the west, it looks like Berliner Stadtschloss. Could that have been intentional?

I personally believe it is. I'm currently writing a thesis on the history of the Site so if I can get hold of Franco Stella I might be able to get a definitive answer.

Werder Strasse

It looks like this would be a good time to take that "kink" out of Werder Strasse. There seems to be no reason to leave that there with everything else that's being rebuilt and/or remodeled around the new Humboldt Forum. I would think that would make a real improvement in traffic flow.

Humboldt Box will be removed once the reconstruction of the Stadtschloss is finished. I think it's a modular building so it will probably be moved somewhere else.

I'm more concerned that a European capital needs donations to do something like this. Surely this could be sold to a developer and turned into apartment blocks - restoration and everything?

I don't think the palace is anything particularly special. It reminds me of Buckingham Palace's architectural blandness - if it were destroyed I would replace it with new, more extravagant architecture.

It is not about needing, it is about what you choose to use taxpayer money to get done. I think it´s a great thing to prove that the initiatives of the people can be the force behind the realization of such a project.

To your architectural taste, I have no comment, however.

I hope they don't rebuilt it anywhere . I can't think of any unfortunate place who deserves this monster . Please recycle it's precious metal!

The crown is gone. It didn't look like the renderings. Was it just for the ceremony and the real thing is coming in? The west and south sides are moving along. How is the north side doing?
