yes, but GFA doesnt grab headlines.....height does....it could be a sliver of a building, but if it is taller, the promotional benefits are super-charged

GFA = Gross Floor Area.

For this project, it is nearly 200,000 sq.m.

Hmm, Jumeirah is a Dubai hotel group belonging to Dubai Holding
owned by Dubai government. Maybe this project will be quite for
a while.

Jumeirah Hotel is just a hotel operator. Which "hired" by Country Group. Thai Owned Company who is developing this project.

Has nothing to do with Dubai Crisis.

The Wall Street Journal December 17th

"Dubai-based luxury-resort operator Jumeirah Group said its expansion plans are continuing despite declines in revenue and worries about its home city's financial condition.

Gerald Lawless, executive chairman of Jumeirah, shrugged off concerns that the company's parent, Dubai Holding, could become the next casualty of the Persian Gulf emirate's debt woes.

Dubai Holding, a private conglomerate held by Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, operates hospitality, telecom, real-estate and investment businesses.

Mr. Lawless said Dubai Holding began efforts last year to shore up its finances, for example, reorganizing its real-estate assets. He didn't provide details.

Mr. Lawless said Jumeirah doesn't plan a public offering despite speculation that it might sell shares to raise capital.

In late November, Dubai shook world markets when it requested a freeze on $26 billion of debt payments by conglomerate Dubai World, which is separate from Jumeirah's parent, Dubai Holding.

Since then, the group has announced a $26 billion debt restructuring, and neighboring emirate Abu Dhabi has eased worries by pledging $10 billion in bailout funds for the conglomerate.

In an interview Wednesday, Mr. Lawless said he is sticking by Jumeirah's projection made earlier this year to have 60 hotels in development or open for business by the beginning of 2013.

At the moment, it has 11 that are fully operational around the world—including Dubai's iconic sail-shaped hotel, Burj Al-Arab, and Jumeirah Essex House on Central Park South in New York City.

Similar to other hotel operators, Jumeirah doesn't own its properties outright, but rather enters into long-term contracts with property developers to provide hotel management, branding and marketing, so it doesn't incur the high capital costs of property developers."

Jumeirah to manage 5-star hotel in Bangkok

Jan 28, 2010

Jumeirah Group, the Dubai-based luxury hospitality company and a member of Dubai Holding, has been appointed by Country Group (Thailand) to manage a luxury hotel in the heart of Bangkok. The management agreement was signed by Mr. Gerald Lawless, Executive Chairman of Jumeirah Group and Mr. Ben Taechaubol, Managing Director of Country Group, at a ceremony held recently in Bangkok.

The 305-room, five-star luxury Jumeirah Bangkok will have a prime location on the legendary Chao Phraya River, close to the Sathorn Bridge and Bangkok's Central Business District. With its 200-metre water frontage, the urban resort will be easily accessible from the expressway or by boat through in-house docking stations. The hotel is designed to offer a peaceful environment for business and leisure travelers in the middle of bustling Bangkok.

The concept for Jumeirah Bangkok was developed by the architectural firm Hamiltons International from Singapore in conjunction with UK-based interior design firm United Designs. The luxury hotel will form the iconic centerpiece of a mixed-use development that integrates international and local Thai styles.

Set to open in 2014, Jumeirah Bangkok offers stunning river views, a signature Talise spa, signature F&B outlets, retail units, an art gallery and a banquet & conference centre at the heart of which is a 1200m˛ ballroom looking out onto an array of immaculately designed gardens.

Jumeirah Bangkok is the second management agreement signed by Jumeirah in Thailand, following the Jumeirah Private Island Phuket project agreed in 2008. This brings the total number of properties under development or in operation by Jumeirah globally to 41.
