Also, there is a problem with the wiring, and some ventilation vents have apparently been placed in inappropriate conditions. And, around 60 km of construction pipes may have been installed without any thermal insulation and to correct this, the demolition of numerous walls (probably interior and a few exterior) may become necessary.
Jsut recently they discovered that if the airport runs at full, the electrical and electronical wiring in the main cable duct emits so much heat it needs a second sprinkler unit to prevent fires .... quite a charade that's going on there ...

There has been a lot of smaller news around the airport lately but not much noteworthy. I'll try to summarize (and find a english sources)

1. Still no opening date. And it's ave to say that the airport won't be opened this year. The airport boss even send put a warning that it might be opened in 2016 Source 1 Source 2
2. No partial airport opening. All plans of a temporal opening of the airport north pier have been dismissed German Source

Berlin airport will 'cost €8 billion and open in 2017'

The €8 billion bill is €6 billion more than the original estimate, Bild newspaper reported, citing sources from Brandenburg's economic ministry.

The report, which quotes three anonymous "high-ranking insiders" from the project, also claims many working on the complex have worries about the buildings' safety and irregularities in the plans.

The experts warned that inconsistencies between different building plans could lead to disaster, with authorities unable to be sure of locating vital features such as fire doors in an emergency.

Safety and technical issues are so widespread that insiders believe the airport must either be gutted down to just the outer walls, or rebuilt from scratch, Bild claimed.

An internal "cost-control" body has produced a list of 66,000 "defects" in the new 10,000-square-metre terminal south of Berlin.

And despite being three years behind schedule, the Brandenburg regional government's airport committee announced last month BER was still only “four percent” problem-free.

The airport, which originally hoped to open its doors in 2011, is now not expected to be completed until after 2017, Bild said.

However it is still officially planned to open in 2014 or 2015.

Pleeeaaase! You are quoting the least trusted German newspaper! That's a load of rubbish and not based on any facts! The airport most certainly is 80+% complete, and what people also tend to overlook (whether on purpose or not) is, that the airport that so far cost €4.5bn is actually much bigger than when it was planned for just €2bn, as additional capacity (terminals/piers) were added during construction! So it's unfair to include those capacity expansions in the cost comparison to argue the case of cost blowouts!

I'm sure you said the same thing when tabloids came out and said the airport wasn't going to open in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014...

even if its build 99% and just all cables would be missing for instance, it would cost shit ton.

This airport is becoming a joke.
I'm wondering what are the real explanations for such a delay.

"Important" politicians guessing to be better planners than industrial experts.

Do they have an actual timeline for its opening?

It is a very weird situation. Major construction is complete and structurally sound. All tests with passenger and luggage have been performed. Yet the freaking fire prevention is not working.
