How long will you travel in Thailand? Where will you want to travel , just Bangkok or other part of Thailand?

For cultural heritage or traditional architecture sightseeing .
I would suggest
The central region - Bangkok,Ayutthya
The North --> very popular for Thais - Chiang Mai, Mae hong sorn , Chiang rai.
(But if you want to see the beautiful sea --> go down to the south)

Bangkok is capital city ,the most important and the biggest city , there are both traditional Thai architecture and modern architecture like other Asian capital.
If you are in Bangkok, you should live near skytrain or MRT(under ground) ,it's so conveniance and avoid traffic jam (like Jakarta) ,then take the boat or taxi to old city(which have not skytrain or MRT).

The cultural or heritage place in Bangkok ,you shold visit
- Grand palace and the emerald buddha temple -> the most important place in Thailand.
- Wat po -> to see the Giant reclying buddha
- Wat arun --> to see sunset along Chao Phraya river
- Golden moutain --> to see Bangkok veiw with golden pagoda
- Anantasmakom throne hall--> the most beautiful western architecture in Thailand.
- Wimanmek Mansion --> the biggest teak mansion in the world.
- National museum
- Muang Boran(ancient city) museum --> the biggest open museum in Thailand that show the architecture around Thailand. --> take the taxi cause it's quite far but it's really big and impressive.
- take the boat along Chao phraya to Nontaburi or Bangkok Noi Canal to see riverside's life and building.
- Jim thomson Thai house

For modern architecture and shopping mall.
-Lumpini park to see the giant park in CBD of Bangkok
-Baiyoke skytower --> the tallest building in Thailand to see Bangkok veiw
- Sathorn road --> main cbd of Bangkok
- Terminal 21 --> very famous and new trendy mall
- Siam Paragon and Siam center -->very famous Hi-end mall
-Central world--> the biggest mall in Thailand
-Platinum fasion mall --> Most famous wholesale mall
-skybar on state tower,Banyan tree hotel,or other hotel to see beautiful Bangkok skyline.
-Chatuchak weekend market--> the biggest market in Thailand (maybe in the world)
-MBK center(shooping) and Bangkok cutural center (to see art exhibition)
- Chulalongorn University --> the oldest university and most popular university in Thailand .
-Siam Niramitr --> if you want to see the beautiful Thai show.
-Safari world --> the famous Zoo.
-etc.

You should one day trip to Ayutthaya(World heritage city by unesco) from BKK.
It's great to see Thai traditaional architecture. or take 1-2 days to Kanchaburi to see WWII bridge, clear water at Erawan waterfall ,take raft on beautiful Kwai river, ride the elephant.

If you have more time I recoomend Chiang Mai,Pai,Mae hongsorn to see beautiful Thai north landscape and architecture.

wow awesome, thank you for taking your time for the lengthy reply, it is so helpful
there are some destinations in your list that we'll be visiting. well actually, my friends and I are going in a study trip, and we will be there for about four to five days..
our objective is to observe how local potentials can be developed for better life, among the modernization

so far, we are planning to go to:

1. Aranyik Village, it is in Ayuthayya right? I didnt know ayuthayya is a world heritage city we want to observe how locals develop their living as a potential tourism destination
2. Ancient City, yes we read it is the biggest museum in Asia, and we'd like to see it
3. Sanctuary of Truth, the giant wood structure facing the sea
4. Nong Nooch Tropical Garden
5. visit to Chulalongkorn University
6. Min Buri District, to visit TYIN Tegnestue dan CASE Studio Architects' Old Market Library

we are aware that Thailand is now one of the #1 tourism destinations in Asia, and that's why we want to visit your country. we would like to know how local potential values and local identity can go along with the development of modern city.. is there any village or area in Bangkok that has those criteria? btw, thanks again

For the case of Aranyik Marchete/knife , go to Aranyik town, Nakhon Luang district of Ayutthaya - take a look at the choices to be offered here: OTOP from Tambon Tha Chang, Nakhon Luang District of Ayutthaya

For Ancient City in Samut Prakarn, take a look at the Ancient City web first ... It has been opened in 1968 though. You can drop down and Beearing Skytrain station (EOL) and then take a taxi to Ancient City though

For Sanctuary of Truth in Pataya (created by the owner of Ancient City), take a look at the Sanctuary of Truth website ...

For Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, take a look at (Nong Nooch Garden and Resort)

For the case of Chulalongkorn University, you just simply drop at Samyan Subway station and walk up North or take a motorcycle taxi at the subway station gate ... Take a look at Chula Website

For the case of Minburi Old Market Library, take at look at the Weblog and Facebook first ... At least, Minburi market area (the new one - just the opposite side of the main street) has Halal food due to the fact that there are sizable Muslim community ...

Right now, they are studying the environmental impact and getting ready to summit the plan for the cabinet approval. This will take 5-6 month.
