Amazingly calculated post, SkyTower. It all sounds like it's correct. Although I've kept the personal belief from 808 to 1,011 meter range for the final tower, I just wish we had a sure-fire way to validate the 1,011 figure! What you've posted though is darn close enough though - now hopefully they'll just follow those height diagrams. Interesting explaination on the "bits" consideration. Makes sense they're pre-stressed and pre-formed but the tie-in to the main parts of the tower is an interesting aspect to point out.

*Edit*. On the subject of those plates, are they just brought up, tied in, then "caulked" if you will to the rest of the floorplate? Those interior shots posted on burjdubai.com shows (as well any other interior shot likewise) that there are a ton of panels in the concrete rather than just one giant slab poured uniformly over decking. Granted the structural methods used are different but it just seems interesting that they're doing it this way.

Is it for a more expedient construction timeframe rather than waiting for entire large floors to cure (or is the covered area too great or risky for that to happen / floors in different areas of the building being built at different times aka core, wings, noses)?

Those walls are sickly thick however...

Sorry if I phrased that question in a confusing way. Hopefully you can shed some light on that if you happen to know, thanks.

It's not the size, its the aesthetics that make a building great.

If it's within 10m of being 808m I will personally buy you a ticket to Dubai and I'll buy you lunch, then we'll go to the ob-deck and look at all the little people down there!

wow i've missed alot this weekend, just read through all the posts and looked at all the new pics.. hmm, i think 808m is a good height, it will be perfectly proportioned then. AND its exactly 1/2 mile which is good. 818m ? why bother only adding 10m to it.. pfft. pointless and 1011m, wont happen. the building is too thin as it as let alone adding 200 extra thin meters to it.

Looks very nice...

http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com...0rendering.jpg

Compare that rendering with the current rendering shown at som, its from exactly the same type of rendering only the top is made lots smaller [1,2]. However, the other picture shown on their website does not show the downsized top [3] which is definitly larger. Burj could definitely become more than 808meters!!

How about a great big HD rendering to shut you up!

http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com...0rendering.jpg

The steel section should start after the conctrete footing pinnacle between L159-L164....and we're no way near that yet!
That's when the steel goes up to L206 where the levels are only 8m accross (bigger than most peoples houses) and another 12-14 un-inhabitable staircase levels to L214-L216 before the pinnacle!

1011m anyone?
I have no idea where you're getting 214 floors from that render. I counted from the third mech floors (L115) and didn't even get to 200 (even including the "fake" floors in the steel structure).

Where did you get 808m as an "exact" height? That number was refuted by Adrian Smith, your god.

The Burj Dubai cynic and comedian. Everybody needs a laugh.

So cite your sources that bring you the "facts."

Hey guys. FORGET 808m exactly. Even if it does not go over 1k, 808 is also not a number to go by.

No it wasn't. He didn't comment on the height. That's not the same as refuting a height.
