This tower looks a bit cheap, so it is no shame it is hidden behind other skyscrapers from almost every direction.

Midtown Is Getting the Western Hemisphere's Tallest Hotel
http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2013/0...lest_hotel.php ![]() "Take a good long look at the photo above. That building, now making rapid progress up toward the skyline, will be the tallest hotel in the western hemisphere once it opens, which it is scheduled to do by December. (It's progressing so rapidly, in fact, that the construction date was just moved up for the third time, according to reps.) The building will also be a Marriott Hotel—the Central Park Marriott, to be precise, at 54th Street and Broadway. The $200 million building will actually contain two hotels, a Courtyard by Marriott (378 rooms) and an extended-stay Residence Inn (639 rooms). Two more fun facts about the 753-foot building: 1) it will be the world's tallest Marriott, and 2) it will have the highest floor-to-area ratio (30 to one) of any NYC building ever. "

For anyone wondering about the quality of this building, it's pretty bad. Just another anonymous glass box piece of crap that is taking up space in the sky.
Doesent surprise me one bit that this is now going to be a hotel. One of those buildings that seemingly pops up overnight and you never even notice. |

I don't get the irregular shape on this building, it doesn't make much sense.

I don't know how anyone can see the shape and cladding of this building and think it's crap. It's a wonderful building.

Unbelievable the development just on this one block over a few years.

I never understood why towers that are so close to the 300m mark, the architect doesn't just add the extra few hundred feet to the top of it

Hahaha, fail. It's only 231 feet too short.

Just add a few hundred feet? Who's gonna pay for the extra construction? You? Who's gonna fill in the extra space with tenants? You?

Because that 300 m mark is a "mark" just for this forum (and a few others). There is nothing official, or known. If you ask an architect how tall a building needs to be to be considered a supertall, he will have no idea what you are talking about. As it should be.

the photo included in that article is deceiving. the glass doesn't actually look that good.
i have to say, i kinda agree with lunchbox. you can't tell in pictures, but when you see it in person, it really doesn't look all that great. it definitely does not look like they used high quality materials. it reminds me of a lot of the crap going up in chicago right now. if you want to see a beautiful glass 'box,' then go check out 4 wtc. ive never seen such beautiful glass.

I saw part of the glass when i was in NYC, but 250W55th street was mainly blocking it from that viewpoint. Even the glass on that one is so gorgeous...
