Not the best example but nonetheless Art Deco, quite unusual, and not what you would expect in the area - Central Lofts, Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK.

If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future? Americans care about their past, but for short term gain they ignore it and tear down everything that matters... This is the time to take a stand, to reverse the tide, so that we won't all end up in a uniform world of steel and glass boxes.

No, I don't agree. Theatre des Champs Elysees was built 1911 to 1913, House Rheingold in Berlin was built 1905 to 1907:

Amazing building and far ahead of its time. Unfortunately it was damaged in WWII and later completely torn down.

Beautiful, but I think this really is art nouveau. Some Northern, geometrical jugendstil structures could be regarded as proto-deco architecture, but their spirit and architectural philosophy is different. They're older too!
