I really dislike Neuschwanstein. Granted, the surroundings are nice, the view also...but it is new! It's not authentic! It is a little more than 100 years old. It has electricity in most rooms, heating pipes, tap water...where is the castle feeling in that?!
But I guess the looks are enough to amaze North Americans..
The Alhambra (Arabic: الْحَمْرَاء, Al-Ḥamrā' , literally "the red one"), the complete form of which was Calat Alhambra (الْقَلْعَةُ ٱلْحَمْرَاءُ, Al-Qal'at al-Ḥamrā' , "the red fortress"), is a palace and fortress complex constructed during the mid 14th century by the Moorish rulers of Emirate of Granada in Al-Andalus, occupying a hilly terrace on the southeastern border of the city of Granada, now in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alhambra
Three reasons why I like Burg Eltz best:
1. It is a real medevial castle, built around 1150.
2. It is completely surrounded by nature.
3. The fairytale-like atmosphere inside the yard is hard to beat.
Additional trivia: The castle is still owned by the builder's family - for over 800 years now.
The biggest castle in the world according to Guinness Book of Records
