If you could choose any skyscraper for Melbourne.

If you could pinch a skyscraper from anywhere in the world to have in Melbourne what would you choose? IMO it would need to be one that suited Melbourne, so something like The Chrysler Building probably wouldn't really work. Although having that would be amazing.

I'm going to give my choice some thought. I'm tempted to pick San Francisco's Transamerica Pyramid Building myself.

^One Liberty Place, Philadelphia.

It would be perfect for the Grand Central site.

Bank of America Tower Seattle:

If it was built in Melbourne it could have gone all the way to 306.5m as there are no FAA height controls here :-)

I'm with you Grollo. Never seen this before you posted. Dark, seductive and so sleek. Instantly now my favourite skyscraper in the world.

I can't belive it was built in 85. Design wise it looks new. And it would suit Melbourne perfectly too.

Agreed - what Melbourne doesn't need is more spires.

I found the Bank of America Tower in Google Earth - 47 36' 17.42"N 122 19' 54.05" W

It's an interesting set of curves and set-backs.

Q1, end the QLDer's vs Vics forever!

I think it would fit well in St kilda, completely dominate the skyline down there.

I'm a bit disapointed with Q1 myself. I don't like the way the roof rises to the spire and forms what looks like a cross between a large satelite dish and a fence. IMO it's a shame. You have this superb understated building, with, unfortunately, a pretty tacky top.

Maybe they can change the design of FwP3 to something along the lines of the Bank of America Tower.

Where do u guys think the best spot is for a signature Melb tower ?

I think a great spot would be just south of BHP's new HQ
OR
in the far north of the Hoddle Grid just south of the Queen Vic Markets.

I think the powerstation site is a goodun, if we don't get something 250m+ there I'll cry like a little girl. I like the site itself because of its centralish location between the hoddle grid and docklands. The area around it is pretty shithouse right now though.

I just love this building and I don't care where we put it.

...maybe the old power station site?
