Ladies and Gents.

I would have love to see the Rail modernized instead of the Avenue Poids Lourds.

Rail takes more people and faster, and cheaper.

I agree, I think if we can use the real potential of Inga we can use tramway, less pollution cause using electricity.
Yes Trammways will be beautiful and efficient. But we don't need Inga to have this . Kinshasa's problem is lack of Transformers . Zongo Dam is there and they can built Zongo 2 (Some Chinese had proposed to build Zongo II, but you know how it it is) or expand the existing with just $250 million.

A good thing Kinshasa already has the Rail, from N'djili Airport to Gombe (CBD) and from Gombe to Kitambo ( all the way in the west of Kin). then they can add a line from Kitambo to UNIKIN then back to N'Djili again. and the rest use the long buses. Transportation solved.

I know. with 1,700 MW that Inga1 and 2 supposed to produce, only 750 MW is produced.
Inga 3 can produce 4,500 MW, but they would rather fill their pockets and big bellies than providing power to the people. Everything is there to make this happen.
But everything is a joke in this country.

I'm tired of talking about these moronic leaders.

With Kinshasa already having the existing rail. it would only cost like $60 million to rehabilitate the existing rail tracks and then spend something like $100 million more for the trams and buses and problem fixed. $150 million in total and Kinshasa is back to life.

I read an article last month , that TFM ( the largest mining company and project in the country) that it might help invest in rail to export through Matadi (to make it investment more profitable by avoiding to pay transit fees and port usage in other countries ).

Anywho, Kinshasa already has an existing Railine. (perfect one too.).

From the Airport through the the most populated areas of Kinshasa to CBD. And from CBD to Western posh Suburbs. Not just that. But there also the 4 major Boulevards going North and south that are undergoing modernization as we speak.

Strategically easy to provide a very efficient Public Transit system.

13 new carriages at Kinshasa train station

Ex-Onatra: 13 nouvelles voitures du train interurbain à Kinshasa

Kinshasa, 7.02.2011

Thanks for posting. I want to see inside.

Ok, because Kinshasa government (City and State) doesn't knows how to maintain anything they put into service or enforce anything, let alone having any kind of vision.

I remember an article in 2009 about renovating some old trains and buying some outdated ones.

However: What about the line Gombe - Kintambo? what happened to that line? They need to put back that line in business. demolish anyone built on that line. compasate them with plots of land elsewhere.

I was waiting for some ultra modern trams , But outdated mind, outdated life.

As so often, these good for nothing ONATRA officials are putting the cart before the horse. Why order new train carriages before upgrading the entire urban railway system? Stations, railway signals, railtracks and the rest of the equipment are outdated and extremely dangerous. If they put these carriages into service under current conditions, it will not take long before we start witnessing some spectacular derailments with hundreds of casualties.

Furthermore, it does not make sense to upgrade “Place de la gare” with posh buildings and leave the rotten station building standing; it has to be pulled down and a new station must be constructed in order to complete the modernization of this key part of the city. The implementation of a half-baked modernization programme is the wrong way to attract investors.

These aren't new trains. They're old European carriages, apparently from former Czechoslovakia, and have been donated by the Belgian government. They can only go as fast as Onatra's locomotives can haul them, so they're probably not any more dangerous than the rolling stock Onatra currently has. If I've read the markings on the side correctly, the maximum permitted speed is only 50 km/h.

Excellent ! This proves that Kabila and the government can deliver on their promise to modernize the country. However, there is still a long way to go and many hurdles to overcome before this goal is reached. One of the most important hurdles is undoubtedly the lack of methodology in the policy implementation process and the urban railway system is a case in point. Indeed, instead of buying dozens of new railway rolling stock, they should have started with the rehabilitation and modernization of the physical infrastructure (railway track, railway stations, etc.) Are these new trains going to operate on the outdated and dangerous tracks? This would be irresponsible on the part of ONATRA people.

Nevertheless, I am thrilled by Kimbembe Mazunga’s announcement: Kinshasa will soon acquire a tramway network. Coming from Kabila’s senior advisor on infrastructure matters, this piece of news is to be taken seriously. The Belgian company Prefarail s.a. will be in charge of materializing this long-awaited project.

The immediacy of restruturing Congo's railway is too obvious to escape anyone's attention. Its rational is overwhelming. The common sense would like that such a project have priority over things pertaining to entertainment. But, the world isn't ruled by comon sens; if it were we wouldn't be living in a messy world and Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin, Polpot, Mobutu, Bokasa, Idi Amin Dada...wouldn't have had a job!

The guy brings up a very important issue on the Rail Ligne Gombe - Kitambo..

He calls for a real investment into real Urbain rail investment.

Adding additional lines is very critical with complet modernization of existing lines.

I would say. Kitambo-UNIKIN, UNIKIN-N'Djili Airport would do well.

How can they built all this if you keep selling cements factories shares, and you could not make steel factory in Maluku works.
Do this people; really know how to build something. You need to have cements and steel.

This people are there just to destroy everything.
