Bit of good news on Spurs stadium front...

The Club can confirm that the Secretary of State has written to the London Borough of Haringey stating that he does not propose to call in the planning application for the Northumberland Development Project and Haringey Council has today (15 April 2016) granted permission for the scheme.

We shall now work with Haringey Council in respect of finalising planning processes, public sector support for the surrounding environs and transport improvements that are essential to the deliverability of the scheme.

We are delighted that the scheme continues to progress and shall keep fans updated. Current works on site can be viewed via the webcam at www.tottenhamhotspur.com/new-scheme/stadium-tv

Does the new stadium have a name yet? I assume it will be a sponsored name like the Etihad or Emirates.

As an arsenal fan I hope this new stadium is called the Virgin, the Weatherspoons, the Tesco or the Greggs

From the Chairman's message, taken from tomorrow's programme:
Quote:

..As you arrived at White Hart Lane for today's match you could not have helped but notice the towering cranes now on the site of the new stadium and, looking up, see our Club emblem proudly displayed on them. They are a clear and distinctive signal of our intent to build for the future both on and off the pitch.

After more than 15 years of land acquisition, nine years in design and planning, we finally have the permissions we need to realise our vision of delivering one of the finest stadiums in the world.

We are building what we believe to be the foundations, literally and metaphorically, for the future of our Club.

As we move forward we know we shall face challenges and we shall often ask you to support us through these. We are currently progressing the build programme and will share details for the coming seasons with you as soon as we have final clarification. After today's match we shall use the closed period to fast track works on site.
Also...

Quote:
Work has commenced on the new Player Lodge at the Training Centre which will provide our players with an exceptional accommodation and recovery facility. This will take around two years to complete.

Yes, one more season at WHL, but obviously with a reduced capacity. Part of the current stadium needs to go so they can build one of the perimeter concrete cores for the new stadium:

Quote:
In order to move forward on a critical element in the foundation of their new stadium, which is being built adjacent to White Hart Lane, part of the North East corner of the existing stadium will need to be demolished.

The demolition is necessary to install one of the concrete cores that form needed "to stabilize the stadium structure." Because it sits within the footprint of White Hart Lane, and in order to avoid construction delays, it's necessary to close and demolish part of that corner. The work will result in 4000 less seats for the entirety of the 2016-17 season.

To add to RMB2007's explanation above, this is also the reason why we're playing Champions League matches at Wembley next season, as WHL in this state doesn't meet UEFA regulations on "access, capacity and rights delivery".

So...

2016/17 - WHL reduced to 32k, Champions League matches played at Wembley

2017/18 - All matches played at Wembley

2018/19 - Move to new stadium

I thought the 3 historic buildings (bottom right) were to have been saved and incorporated into the new design. Obviously not.

That was the plan as part of the previous scheme by KSS. But the new scheme by Populous required their demolition.
