St George's Palace - Tonga

This was the brain child of his Late Majesty, King Tupou V. He envisaged a landmark government building to combine and bring the ministerial offices under one roof. The design and location symbolise the roles of the Government and the Crown in partnership to govern Tonga. This is achieved with the new building sitting directly opposite the Royal Palace in Nuku'alofa and mimicking key features such as central located tower and dome.

On this map you will see the Royal Palace to the left as marked, to the right is the new building marked with Mangai Si'i.

The existing Treasury Building as indicated above in artist's impressions of the new complex as a plain block. This will be renovated and repurposed.

Courtesy of John Pulu, an update of the construction. Things are moving steadily and will see a dedication perhaps in the next 12 months.

clearly they're bugging the buildings with their own surveillance taps etc. Tonga will have no secrets now.
