More photos of Prilep (for the rest, check the previous pages)

Walking on the narrow streets near the old town you can always find nice houses/villas, hidden among the old, the neglected or the ugly newly built houses...

The Orthodox Christian church of the Saints Cyril and Methodius, built between 1926 and 1936. The smaller gray chapel on the right side of this photo was built in 1884.

Beautiful Prilep - #461/1 is a lovely villa, and I like the Orthodox Church!

The Orthodox Christian church of Saint Petka (Paraskeva). The exterior was finished in 2015, while the interior was finished this year. It's built in the so called Neo-Byzantine style.

The monastery complex of Saint Archangel Michael above the city of Prilep. The old church dates back from X century, while the inns are newly built in traditional architecture. The landscape around the monastery is quite interesting. Due the rocks, Prilep is well appreciated among the people that like bouldering.

Unfortunately, photographing inside the complex was forbidden, so I couldn't make photos of the church and the interior with the old frescoes...

Well, that was Prilep. Next will be the Stone Dolls, area consisting of over 120 naturally formed stone pillars.

Saint Nickolas is wonderful...
And Stone Dolls, that sounds very interesting!

I would find it exciting to solve the riddle of this stone.
Such things fascinate me...

We can presume that the round part once was at the top, that it was
kind of a little column. From a house? Or maybe a graveyard?

Is the carving as old as the stone, or did someone carve those signs in later?
Seems to be something like a labyrinth... - and we can also see it
at the second (upper) side of the stone.
If it's carved at all sides, then maybe it was a free standing object.

Perhaps someone can tell us the epoch this column (?) could originate from?

I go and google now - I love riddles. The upper part I've already seen
somewhere before, it could be a typical ornament for a certain period -
but I don't know which...

Edit:

That's what I found out so far :

1. Prilep is considered to be the ancient Ceramiae, and in St. Nicklas Church there are several so called "Spolien" (spolia).
Could this column be from the Greco-Roman Antiquity?

2. In Heraclea Lyncestis, an Antique Macedonian city in Bitola we find relics of a spa, and there are similar columns (I found nowhere else
something similar in net): quadratic columns with (nearly) semispherical top - please look at the second pic:

http://www.macedoniancuisine.com/201...acedonian.html

3. I've found this engraved symbol in net! It's on the picture in the last line - unfortunately nobody knows it's meaning!

https://www.gutefrage.net/frage/was-...-diese-symbole

Most of the other symbols at this page have esoteric meaning, so could imagine that a group of esoteric interested people found this interesting
and old looking column and used it for esoteric purpose. Which leads me to point

4. The engraved symbol reminded me of the inner part of some Kalachakra Mantras (Tibet), but in a very, very simplified form:

https://image.cosplayfu.com/b/45-tib...inting-104.jpg

I could imagine that our engraving has the meaning of "the path (or way) to knowledge", or "initiation", "orientation".

Yes, I admit that I've read Dan Brown and love symbols, riddles and mystery.
Please, let us solve the riddle of this column, it's adventurous.
Perhaps you could show (or email) a pic of the column some historian or archaeologist, George?

Wow, Sylvia, you spent so much time exploring this, I'm speechless.

My guess is that the column is from the Greco-Roman Antiquity, or maybe from an Ottoman tombstone.

Greco-Roman Antiquity would be a sensation.
But not impossible in a region with such a rich history!

Oh, you found a new hot trace...
Yes, could be Ottoman as well!

My pleasure, George!
One last thing: Would be great if the archaeological gem (and for me it is such one,
even if it's "only" from a peasant's building of the 19th century )
could stay at it's place. Seems if it has been there since many years...
And we must find out the meaning of that engraved symbol.

Yes, the rocks around the city have interesting shapes. For example, very popular is the so called "elephant rock" (I will use other people's photos for this because I don't have my own):

...and the "woman's head rock":
