A lot more steel has been erected in particular beams between the columns - could see them from the Hunslet side.

Its not until you get down to ground level that you can see how big the site really is - just look how small what they have done so far looks in the context of the site.

Is this the tallest element they've started on?

Steel panelling now complete. I'm guessing this is set up for concrete to be poured?

These are the houses that run right across the front of the site, not the tall elements. The tall apartment blocks run along the top of the site next to the road.

cadab you are correct, the steel panels form the soffit (underside) of the roof slab - so they have to fix reinforcement then pour the slab.

As far as I can see this section will contain 30 houses and the start of the 'street'.

I'd love to see more developments like this in the inner city. Precisely what the city needs.

There is a current application to vary the plans which does suggest a lot of changes to the plans.
  • The townhouses were reduced from 4 floors to 3, and their design/layout made a lot more standard being laid out in two straight lines.
  • The apartment blocks have been made a lot squarer in design, but with more varying roof heights across the blocks. They're also no longer going to be designed in dark black/brown timber, but a more pedestrian light grey.
  • The circular tower at the south-west of the site is gone.

These amendments are all pretty sad to see and this Phase 1 of the build (just the north side of the Aire) looks a lot less concept-y than it did when it got planning permission first time. They have justified the changes but it all stinks of value-engineering.

Don't get me wrong still an amazing project and can't wait to see it finished...just not *quite* as exciting as before. Link to the application here:

https://publicaccess.leeds.gov.uk/on...=OUCRF4JBLY100

17/05263/FU | Variation of condition 2 (approved plans) of approval 15/00415/FU to amend the approved drawings to reflect layout and design changes including an increase in units to 316 from 312 dwellings |

not sure why you have picked that comment from tomleeds from July to reply to, as it was well before these amendments went in!

Nope, Block X is untouched by the amendments and still present on the site plan uploaded in August.

Not sure about value engineering, they have not changed the materials or quality of the builds, just improved the layouts. They have also increased the size of the main apartment blocks, again not exactly value engineering!

I was looking back through the forum pages to see if it had been mentioned that this application was in, I thought it would be a relevant one to quote is all!

Block X is shown as an outline on that plan, but it is omitted from the design statement - maybe they've omitted it because there are no changes to the plans for that block, my mistake.

My comment was based on the fact that no application had been submitted at that point for changes to the design. Regardless of that point, I don't agree that the new application is in any way scaled back, and I personally think the new design is an improvement on the original design. There certainly isn't anything which is 'sad to see' with regards to the development, it is going to be fantastic once the plans are fully realised!

http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.u...orce-1-8796290

"a developer behind a major piece of a masterplan for the so-called ‘South Bank’ area of the city will double its workforce over the next year as it forges ahead with the pioneering project. Urban style developer Citu already has 70 staff working on the plan to create 515 family homes. But that will increase by 100 with vacancies in manufacturing, construction, digital and sales sectors, the firm has announced."

I don't know whats so 'so called' about South Bank but whatever - more good news!

Its gonna be grr8 for this area with this development and Hunslet Mills, it could also lead to the last Echo building/Gateway proposals etc. coming back... yeah i guess the 'South Bank' is just a former largely industrially connected area of Hunslet and Holbeck where they merged at Jack and Meadow Lane, creating the Hunsbeck of legend where Peter O'toole drank copious amounts of Guinness/Tetleys and smoked Capstan full strength tabs in the pubs.
