Still can't find the name of the lady who also voiced the Olympic Closing Ceremony, quite a deep voice, to me sounded a mature lady, voice reminiscent of Mariella Frostrup
about female announcer at the Closing Ceremony:

she was also the female announcer at the Opening and Closing Ceremony of the 2006 Doha Asian Games

It's nice to know the name of the person who's voice got right on my tits for 2 months. Cheers Layla Anna-Lee.

Tell me about it. I couldn't stand her voice!

I didn't actually cross reference this to the footage to see if she actually announced those countries in English, but you get the idea!

Totally agree. Fantastic article.

Looking back at some of the threads and posts on here over the last few years it's quite amusing (and embarrassing) seeing some of the stupid comments made about the most ridiculous of things. Thankfully many of those people are no longer here.

People are always entitled to an opinion, we wouldn't be British if we didn't moan

I have to say though, (listening to the ceremony soundtrack as we type) that ceremony really did shove a sock in peoples mouths. Genuinely the most inspiring thing I have ever witnessed (I Was in the South Standing area).

Beyond Theatre Award
Danny Boyle and his creative team

For the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics

Quote:
Danny Boyle's spectacular Olympic opening ceremony has received special recognition at the 58th London Evening Standard Theatre Awards.
The Oscar-winning director and his team were presented with the Beyond Theatre award by TeamGB's cycling champion Victoria Pendleton.

Judges praised the London 2012 curtain-raiser for its "outstanding work" in taking theatre outside of the traditional stage.

I'm currently editing and uploading all my Olympics video footage. I haven't looked at it at all since I filmed it (waiting to relive it properly when I finally had the time to do it). It's amazing to go through it all again. I'll share my videos when I've got them online

Edit: And here is the first part!

I still find it a shame that the whole 'sea silk' was left to the pre-show and not really shown on TV. The BBC showed some of it but not in the context of the whole stadium so didn't get the whole atmosphere.

I was a shame for me that I was in a section that didn't get to go under the blue silk. I looked fun

Much of the pre-show and the sea of silk makes it into the Blu-Ray box set.

I'm trying to stop watching or listening to anything Olympic related It's now 4 months since it started, and ashamedly I don't think a day has gone by where I've not gone on YouTube to watch a clip, or listened to one of the soundtrack songs, or put the dvd in.. It has become an addiction. So trying to give it a miss for a few weeks so I don't lose the goosebumps and emotion. I do hope though that in time more backstage footage etc comes to light and gets televised to show how the ceremony came to be.

Anyone interested in what happened to the Olympic Bell from the Opening Ceremony? Well, take a look at this: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...graveyard.html

Well obviously it's going to be in storage, where else would it be? The Olympic Park is back to construction site, would be stupid of them to leave the bell where it could be damaged. Tilbury is where all the village furniture is too, waiting for people to buy, I would guess so are the props. Lol at them saying that the props are 'rotting' 1. that bell is gonna need some millennia to rot and 2. everything looks in rather good condition, which would make sense if they are going to sell them, If they were destined for the scrap heap they'd have been ripped up and already sold for srcap.

What a crap article. It isn't even interesting news. Granted, I'm sure a lot of people are wondering what the bell's ultimate destiny is - does anybody know, by the way? - but of course things like ceremony props are going to stay somewhere until they are picked up. What are the organisers supposed to do, take everything to some grand museum that should be open to the public the day after the closing ceremonies are over?

People really need to stop reading trash like The Sun!

The number of people on that site slating the waste of the Olympics already, they've soon fallen back into old habits. Idiots..

It would have been nice to see an Olympic museum go on the park somewhere, where the props could have sat with some screens behind them to show the setting etc. A nice big atrium with some smoking chimneys wouldn't go a miss either

A good read, except for the bits about the press. When are the press ever doing anything other than trying to find some sensational angle? Of course the press were whipping themselves into a frenzy about everything from terrorism to empty stadiums to traffic chaos. It's what they do.

I saw a headline the other day warning me about 'The Big Freeze'. We used to call it 'winter' once upon a time, but now it's something apparently that we have to go running around screaming about as though it's the end of the world.

Can't find better quality footage than this, but it shows a different perspective of the fireworks at the end of the opening ceremony. They were amazing on the BBC coverage (albeit the athlete montage that kept popping up) but they did miss off the start of the fireworks. Worth a share anyway (I felt).

Watch from around 44minutes into it.

Thanks to a Twitter friend who found this:

Dame Evelyn Glennie talking about performing at the Opening Ceremony and watching the video of the ceremony afterwards:

Might only work for UK listeners though.
