Any project in that area will meet opposition from ecomentalists...unless you propose to build a 15km bicycle tunnel or something really stupid like that.

As the 2 tunnels themselves will certainly be 100kph max the approach roads for the two tunnels could be 130kph and the 2 tunnels along with the short open section between them could be a 100kph rather than a 130kph intermediate section.

The two tunnels alone are around 18km of the 60km total length of the project.

Not so much "substandard" as taking all the difficulties into account and they must show they have thought of all the options in planning given the amount of EU funding sought.

I doubt if more than around 25-30km of the 60km total length of lot 3 will be 100kph 2+2 all the same. It would be utterly criminal if all of it were 100kph just because they were afraid of the ecomentalists.

Recently, NCSIP has opened the price bids in 2 tenders for A3 Struma motorway. The offered price of the company that will probably win the tender for lot 3.1 (Blagoevgrad-Krupnik w/o Zheleznista tunnel) is ~5.874 million euro per km. The offered price for lot 3.3. (Kresna-Sandanski) is 4.62 million euro per km.

Both contracts that are to be signed are for design and build. We can expect the construction to begin in the next year.

Maritsa Motorway LOT 2 is gunning for a 28 May opening. LOT 1 looks like an October opening. Struma LOT 4 looks like a 1 August opening.

I doubt about that deadline for lot 4 of Struma. Its highly unlikely to open in 2 months. Still a lot of works have to be done.

But lot 2 of Maritsa will open probably on the cited date.

We see the efforts and it will be a great achievement if they finish it before the end of the year. There is still too much to be done there.

What is the status of the Svilengrad bypass? New Google Earth imagery dated 26 April 2015 suggests it's nearly completed.

That's one of the reasons why I asked It's already late May and most attention went to the Dimitrovgrad - Harmanli section.

It is reasonable to expect the Svilengrad bypass opening in the first week of June.

The date posted by Bulgarian media is around 5th or 6th of June for Svilengrad bypass, second carriageway.
