Exploratory drilling set at Biliran geothermal field

“Biliran Geothermal, Inc. (BGI) drilling activity will push through this month. They [sic] are just waiting for the drilling rig and they will proceed once it arrives,” Mario C. Marasigan, the department’s director for Renewable Energy Management Bureau, said in a phone interview when asked on updates on the geothermal project.

It was estimated to have a potential geothermal resource that can support a 50-megawatt power plant.

Hello Biliran!
WOW! This is one amazing islet! Breathtaking!

Is this part of the islet shown above? Is there available accommodation nearby or on the islet itself?

How to get there from Cebu?

Thanks a lot!

Yup its still part of Sambawan Island. Currently there are no available accommodations there as travelers need to camp out and bring their own tents if they want to stay in the island. Sambawan Island can be reached through Maripipi pier. Maripipi can be reached from Naval via pumpboats which ply the route whole morning 2-3 times a day. travel time is 1 hour. to reach Biliran Province from Cebu, you can ride the boat which ply the province 2x a week, I forgot if its Roble or Lite Shipping or both, or you can ride the fastcraft via Ormoc and bus or v-hire to Naval, Biliran. land trip is 1 hour and a half between Ormoc and Naval

UPDATE:

as per Gov. Gerry Boy Espina has said on media and personal account of my relatives in Biliran, only 5 people died on the wrath of Typhoon Yolanda in Biliran, 4 from Naval and 1 from Cabucgayan. Towns bady damaged by Yolanda was Cabucgayan, Biliran and Naval. Cell service is still down in most parts of the province but there are some pocket signal areas throughout the province. Relief is being given to the people in need through the Municipal and Provincial Government. Roads to Lemon are passable but with some minor Blockages in Leyte-Leyte Area. Biliran Bridge is doing ok and passable. Capital Town of Naval still has no cell service and some business establishments are affected with the typhoon. Road clearing is being done the Biliran cross country road and the Biliran circumferential road to let vehicles completely pass through other towns within the province. Outside relief is also needed to help Biliranons cope up with the tragedy

White beach din pla ang Sambawan island, Biliran. Perhaps the best in Region 8. I wish I could visit there someday.

#8. HIGATANGAN ISLAND, NAVAL, BILIRAN

Quote:
At Higatangan Island’s tip is a sandbar which changes shape depending on wind direction, and which changes color depending on the time of day. On the other side of the island are towering limestone formations. There are a few resorts on the island, but Higatangan remains quiet and slow-paced.
Quote:
At night, the island has arguably one of the starriest skies, given its remote location and power shutdown after 10pm.
